Can't blame kids trying to cash in on their one opportunity, but I imagine it makes it pretty easy to wade through the portal and determine who's looking for a payday vs who's looking for a real opportunity. Market needed a correction as well!

that sound you hear is the market correcting

That's kind of how I feel digging through this thread. Lot of guys going into the portal that averaged pretty normal numbers for a starter at the mid-major level. Just not a lot of guys who will merit a payday to jump up a level. I think we'll see even more kids left high and dry when transfer season is over this year.

I'd be curious if there is a bit of restraint shown on NIL moving forward. Once the gates opened 2 years ago Booster were salivating to provide NIL to get players to their school with mixed success. Totally would make sense that now after a few years the collectives will level and there will be limits to what is spend.
That won't change portal transfer expectations.

I don’t even know if it’s correcting (maybe it is some). I think all these rumored NIL deals are exaggerated. In football and especially basketball.

Are there a handful of high-profile players getting 6 to 7 figures. Sure. But that’s like the top 20-25 players in their sport. Most players are probably making 5 figures, imo.

He's from St Louis, but only considered BigTen schools in his HS recruiting. We didn't offer him (Iowa did).

I'm assuming he's too high profile for us to pull in, but that is the exact type of player we need.
No such thing as too high profile for this staff or this program anymore. Now, is it likely, probably not, but not because he’s too “high profile”. Probably gonna get offered a bag to play somewhere

Never discount TJs magic.
Making up numbers. Let's say this guy is getting offered $250k by bubble teams.
Would you take half that if it means you get 2 years with coach Green on a legitimate FF contender? That type of exposure adds value. Let alone improves his future as a pro. Prime example BRE.

It'll never happen but it would be nice if you had to disclose what you're getting from a collective.

I think that would also slow down the portal when kids see exactly what numbers actually look like rather than some pie in the sky number their AAU coach is feeding them.
