PCA as leadoff?
Not if Tucker is batting second. Why take pitches away from your best hitter. Put him 9th and let Happ see some pitches.

I think PCA ends up hitting 6th or 7th. There's too much pop there to cost him ABs hitting 9th. I see Nico in the 9 hole.

Wouldn't mind having PCA & Hoerner hitting back-to-back as Cubs could use hit & run as weapon to leverage PCA's speed and put pressure on opposing pitchers to throw strikes.

The other consideration with PCA is having a guy ahead of him in lineup with some wheels as well. Would hate to slow PCA down.

I’m hoping Nico gets dealt

Alright Pressly is the closer.

Based on other outlets who I believe have accurate sourcing, the Cubs have about $10M left to spend this offseason. Tom might be right in that we'll spend up to the $241 tier, but I think Jed wants a massive buffer so he can go get big names at the deadline, if he wants - I'm thinking specifically of Sandy Alcantara, who will likely be on a ****** Marlins team but they need his opening day salary to avoid getting griefed by the MLB.

I think that $10M goes to one more reliever and a backup 1B.

My complete guess based on the smoke - Ryne Stanek and Mark Canha.

Though I would love to see Jed be a bit more creative with it.

How much cash did Houston send us?

If they are still interested it probably goes something like this. Sign Bergman, trade Hoerner for a SP, Trade Taillon.

The two 40 man roster moves they have to make to add Pressly and Berti should be interesting. Guessing 1 if not both will be trading or DFA a fringe pitcher like Hollowell and can't rule out Keegan Thompson and Ethan Roberts as possibly on the chopping block too. Not sure where you would position wise unless you find Luis Vazquez expendable or return Rule 5 pick Workman. I can't find a site that has a full breakdown of what players may be out of minor league options too, I know Canario is and the assumption is he will likely be the bench OF because he can play all 3 positions.

Roster Resource menu option on FanGraphs has options remaining.

I saw that Festa has been DFA'd.

There are 24 pitchers on the 40 man after dropping Festa. The Cubs have added a lot of arms late 2024 season or over the winter and it would seem like they could pare that further before opening camp.

Obviously the Berti add could mean a corresponding DFA of an infielder added over the winter. But there has been complete turnover from 2024 utility infielders and having numbers at spring training might be a wise move. As the Cubs need to find a new Peredes, Wisdom and Mastrobuoni. Plus Hoerner might be on the IL to start the season. Plus, which version of Busch do we see in 2025? The .280 hitter from the 1st half or the .210 hitter from the 2nd half.
