***Official 2024 Chicago Cubs Thread***

It took a whole year for someone to figure this out? Which means he has to sit, at minimum, another year?

I know 60-Day IL means player doesn’t count toward 40 man, but is it the same on the offseason? Because if not, he’s an easy DFA candidate.
It's not. 60 day IL guys have to have a 40 man slot after the World Series.

He'll get DFA'd for sure. Maybe they try to sign him to a minor league rehab deal but I think he's probably done.

Alzolay, Horton, Marquez, Wicks, Killian, and Wesneski—-all top 5 prospects that seem to have arm issues as they are about to break through. Maybe it’s something the organization should look into when it comes to development of pitching.

Horton had a lat strain, Marquez was a shoulder, Wicks came back from a forearm strain and hurt his oblique, Kilian was a shoulder issue to start the year. So these are all over the map, not like it's some fundamental issue with a specific injury type. Honestly it's just part of pitching prospects. You need a ton of them, becuase pitchers are getting injured at higher rates than ever before.

FullCountTommy expects Adbert to be non-tendered this offseason which will open a spot on the 40 man.

I'm probably mis-remembering but I thought this all started as a 15 day DL as a break because you are pitching so ****** and are out of options type thing.

Alzolay has had injury issues prior to this as well including while coming up through the minors too if I recall. He's 29, he'll be non-tendered as no point in taking a 40 man spot for a year on a guy that will be 31 when he hopefully be healthy to return, especially a bullpen arm. It's bad luck but it's still a business and need to use 40 man spots on other guys as you can always replace relief pitching.

The one concerning thing is the Cubs have been pretty quiet about injuries over the past few years where some guys sit much longer than initially planned and there isn't much transparency when that happens too. Makes you wonder what other surprises could be coming with some of the other guys on the 60 day IL. Kilian is throwing in Iowa right now so we know he is on the way back but hasn't been much news on the rest of the bunch lately it feels like.

7,8,9
4/11
3 runs
2 rbi
& a walk

That completely changes our lineup from.less than a month ago. Take care of business this weekend with the worst team in the history of baseball and we're knocking on the door of .500.

Have to win 3 of 5 on this upcoming road trip. Anything above that is gravy. If they get 8 of the next 11, which is entirely possible, they are right back in contention for a wild card. I still think getting to 83-85 wins is possible.

Defense has been shored up. PCA is providing offense and they’ve found a bullpen group that looks very competent. I think they’ve figured it out too late, but this team right now is certainly playoff caliber.

The tough thing is this team must play around .650 ball over the last 45 games. That's a pretty tall order over an extended period. But with a focus is on winning each series, it doesn't seem such a reach.

I had been focused on teams right ahead of the Cubs, but the key is for teams like the Braves, Diamondbacks and Padres to come back toward .500. Unfortunately, the Diamondbacks and Padres are two of the hottest teams in baseball.

But at least we've hit a point where it is fun to watch Cubs baseball.

Cubs have a very favorable schedule for this last quarter of season
