***Official 2024 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Obviously a bad send by Willie and he rightfully taking the heat for the situation… but holy hell Madrigal adds literally nothing to this team. Bad hitter, his OPS is over 150 points worse than the MLB average. And his Baseball Savant page ranks him as one of the worst defensive third baseman (mostly due to his lack of range) and a horrible baserunner. As @Rabbuk once stated, the idea of Nick Madrigal is so much better than he actually is.
I can understand Harris being aggressive early in game, but not bottom of 9th. When the Reds LF cut that ball off before getting in the corner and Madrigal hadn't got to 3rd- time to but on the brakes. Nothing wrong with runners at 2nd & 3rd with 1 out. And Bellinger and Morel were up next.

Felt that was a situation where Harris made up his mind he was sending Madrigal when he saw where the ball was hit.

So who's the guy we could realistically get that could spark the offense. Busch has a better OPS than Alonso so that seems pointless.

I-Cubs had an open house today for season ticket holders to see the renovated facilities, some that were mandated by MLB. It was pretty cool. The visitors locker room still had the Indianapolis Indian's names on the lockers. I took a picture for PCA to put on his mantle.

This team is broken. Routine fly balls are being dropped. Three runs....game down the drain along with all the excess rain water.

I just can't

To see the Reds who came around and scored on that play jumping around like elementary kids at recess is painful. Giddy at the Cubs inability to make the most basic baseball plays. Every game it's something different.

And more great defense by the Cubs. Ball drops right between two infielders. Basic plays being botched. Steele has to be like....wtf guys....

If the trends in May continue into June the Cubs will be sellers if they arr 10 games or more back from the division. Question will be are there any guys will multiple years of team control that could be moved. Even with Bellinger's deal could they move him as a potential rental with his opt outs?

I'm at the point where I want to to see what the guys that have been killing it in AAA like Canario Davis Cassie Vasquez and until his recent call up PCA can do in the big league. May have to sit some expensive regulars to give them a chance but they traded away a lot of the core roster a fee years ago to get these guys so it's time to see if those trades paid off.

Cubs have been bad about not trading guys when they are at their peek value. Happ had multiple hot streaks they could have traded him for some value but instead they extended him with a not trade clause while they acquired multiple OF prospects. Going a bit back but they had teams wanting Schwarber before the NL had a DH and they wound up non-tendering him.

And now an overthrow of second on a prime opportunity to turn two in a critical situation. Just wow.....sorry to be negative, but plays like this get made at a high school level all the time.
