Thompson looked terrible last year so hope he has it figured out this year else he won't be much of an improvement over Cuas. I watched him twice in Iowa past summer struggle to throw strikes then when he did got lit up. He was pretty good in 2022 so dunno what happened.

Don't have apple TV so I didn't see it but if KT can be the low leverage guy that can give us 2-3 solid innings we're going to be able to steal a couple games that we normally wouldn't.

If we had Thompson instead of Cuas we probably would have won against the padres the first game. At least based on Thompsons pitching last night.

Didn't realize that the Cubs have another road series in Arizona after this one. Glad they're getting this West Coast trip out of the way so quick.

This is by far the worst stretch we’ll have this season. I think it’s 7 days in a 10 day stretch you either get no game or the game starts after 8:30.

I can only imagine how ****** it would be on the East coast.

9 games in 10 days all on the West Coast. We have another 9 games in 10 days road trip right before Labor Day at Miami/Pittsburgh/Washington.

Can’t wait for the road trip to be over. Getting through this early stretch over .500 while down 2 starting pitchers bodes well for the season I think.

Some noteable "on the farm" updates:

- PCA has been pretty atrocious with the bat. .208 BA and .236 OBP. That won't play at the next level. On the bright side, he is 5-5 on SBs and has been tremendous, as expected, on defense, so there's certainly a role for him at some point this year.

- Shaw has played exclusively at third base so far. Hitting .333 with a .500 OBP. Currently 0 errors on 11 chances at third.

- Mervis is hitting .333 with a .424 OBP and 4 homers and 5 doubles. Being he's 26, I'm hoping he gets a shot at the MLB level soon, whether it's with the Cubs or not.

- Canario is hitting .250 with 2 dongs. I'm going to guess he's paired with somebody in July.

- Caisse has my favorite stat. 75% of the time he is at the plate he either gets on base or he strikes out. He has an OBP of .415.

- Nothing too exciting on Horton. 1 game, 4 innings, 4 K's, 4 hits, 1 ER.

While I was trying to think of ways to get Taillon's $17 MM off the books I noticed something else.

Neris has a $9 MM team option that converts to a player option IF
1) he pitches 60 games (on pace for 58) or finishes 45 games
AND
2) does not finish the season on IL
AND
3) does not sustain a long-term injury.

Something that I feel like will be interesting to pay attention to in September.
