***Official 2024 Chicago Cubs Thread***

If I’m Taillon and Steele, I’m demanding a trade in the off-season. Pitch so well so many times just to have the bullpen cough it up in the weirdest ways. Sorry I’m venting.

That there was a bad loss. Probably too late as it is but if they were going to make a run you have to win that game.

Rough L. Feels the opposite of Thursday. The problem is Thursday was the first time we’ve done something like that all year. Feels like we’ve done this done and dance once a series.

I know we want to win, but I’d really appreciate if we’d start manipulating Neris’ contract.

Suckski should never call off Nico. Armstrong called off Nico and dropped it as well. Paredes throws to first and missed by 10 feet at least. Happ goes to the wall and can’t make the catch. defense definitely cost us this one.

Lol Happ should get zero blame for that. That would’ve been an incredible catch

Cliff in postgame saying that was on Nico for not getting out of PCA’s way sooner. Just a boneheaded take and getting rightfully crucified on Twitter. Nico was standing stationary underneath the ball. He definitely should’ve been more demonstrative calling for it but that is on PCA

I said this earlier but Busch is hitting 50 percentage points higher vs lefties than he is righties. There is not a single statistic that exists showing Busch struggles against lefties.

It is 100% entirely imagined, and my guess is we have some deep analytical data point that shows his swing will cause him to struggle against lefties, but he doesn’t. Kind of like having blind faith in Morel because the deep analytics show he swings a good bat.

In the Jed regime, we value swing path, bat verticality, and grip strength over actual results.

not going to disagree with you on the decision but somebody needs to look past the righty/lefty matchups and let Busch bat because he is in the game and already warmed up.
I was probably just interpreting it how I wanted to interpret it, but it sure sounded like some subtle shade at the decision from Boog when Wisdom came in. “And Wisdom will pinch hit for Michael Busch…. Who was 2/3 with a homerun”

I saw that and wondered why the manager and coaches have not seen it

Not only is he a better bat than Wisdom he just has a better approach at the plate than him too. I realize none of us are going to be MLB managers but my goodness even as fans who go off the eye test more than the analytics when watching games see some of these decisions are bad. I thought that by hiring Counsell some of this analytics based decisions would not happen as often but at times it feels like Ross is still managing the team.

I'm still not getting my hopes up that this team is figuring things out. The NL central is still a week division and the Cubs basically have to win every series the rest of the season to make the playoffs and I don't think playing better than .600 ball consistently is something this roster is capable of doing. Even then have a lot of teams ahead of them that have to struggle to leap them in the standings too.

I see Bryce Windham retired yesterday for the Iowa Cubs. I’m not aware of any injury or anything but kind of odd that he would retire mid season especially as a guy that could potentially be a September call up.

My guess would be he saw the production, or lack there of, of our entire catching staff this year and figured not getting a chance now, he never will.

Most important thing I’m watching for tonight is how we respond. I’m going through out schedule and our skid really started April 30th, which was Alzolays 3rd loss on the year along with having 3 blown saves of his own - 5 of your 12 losses at that point could be pinned on him, which I’m sure does wonders for a teams psyche.

We responded great after blowing an 8-0 lead to the Diamondbacks to lose. Responded great after the embarrassing Pirates loss in which we had 7 walks. But the un-fun part of the season started April 30th. BUT, the last week, the entire team has looked fun.

The April team identity gets over this L, the May, June, July team lets it fester.

And honestly, yesterday’s **** show isn’t they big of a deal in terms of having a learning experience. Rather go through that now than next year.
