Agree...Prairie doesn't dismiss elementaries and high school buildings until 4:00. Ride times put them close enough to the potential threat...no harm no foul in being safe I guess?
Yeah I'd guess prairie has quite a few bus routes that take them all over gods green.

Surprised we haven’t seen a tornado watch issued yet. I’d assume we can expect that to come out soon.

Warm fronts can be especially dangerous, and notorious in Iowa for tornadoes.

This is a classic Iowa tornado day. Cloudy, cold, drizzly then the sun comes out behind the warm front at the last minute and all hell breaks loose.

Follow the front. Storms that can catch and root on the front will be particularly favored for tornadoes. Where winds are more southeasterly.

Friday when I got to work, I told the others, there won't be a tornado in Des Moines, doesn't feel right, winds are out of the southwest. Areas with surface winds out of the south, but especially southeast are going to have maximized spin, which is why the warm fronts are usually trouble.

They won't issue a tornado watch until storm initiation begins or just prior to. Which isn't forecast to happen for at least several more hours. Watch the satellite loops and look for bubbling cumulus clouds (towering cumulus clouds) - generally in the west central /southwest Iowa area this afternoon.
