I used to love storms and tornados. Then I became a homeowner...
Same. It used to be something that excited the hell out of me.

I was directly following and watching this tornado as it happened. One of the most interesting experiences of my life. I was also 18 and didn't have anything I owned or anyone I loved in the direct path. I observed the direct hit to the grain elevator mentioned.

Still pretty chilly this morning. Warm front still on same track or is it further south than expected?

Here's a rough surface chart - the low pressure will continue moving northeastward and you can see the location of the warm front lines up pretty well with the southern extend of the cloud cover over Iowa. It's making progress northward. You can watch a satellite loop to get an idea of how it's moving.

Cedar Rapids Prairie announces an early dismissal...IC schools are out early...CR not announced yet. Getting more altered schedules due to spring weather than we did in the winter! Scary stuff!

I get it, but storms really aren't forecast to fire until early evening. Not in the afternoon like on Friday. Unless something changes, no reason to dismiss school for this threat. Just my opinion...

eastern iowa has a decent severe weather chance early afternoon. Maybe not tornadic at that point but still high gusts and hail.

Prairie does not have enough bus drivers, so they have several who have to run 2 routes. Because of that, I think some of their bus routes don't get done until 5 or 6. They also have to start extremely early in the morning.

Agree...Prairie doesn't dismiss elementaries and high school buildings until 4:00. Ride times put them close enough to the potential threat...no harm no foul in being safe I guess?

DSM
DSM forecast is for sun and warming this afternoon which will fuel the storms beginning early evening.

I think this will be the sign for DSM. Looks like major clearing coming based on the GOES. Also this is not good. The twitter ex community is a poo-flinging monkey show lately and it’s “cool” to **** on Nadocast recently but this ain’t good.

Anyone know if the Fairfax area got hail this morning? If not, anyone know where you can go to find out?
