Notre Dame grad transfer(I believe) Cormac Ryan in portal. WANT! Good size. 6'5" Scored 89 pts. in his last 5 games. Has had big games against some big time foes. Sounds like he will play a little defense, too! WANT!
(Also smart and team captain! I believe originally a Canada product?)

Here is wording from an NCAA Q&A on grad transfers. Sounds like there is a waiver process to be immediately eligible.

Q13: What if the student-athlete transferred previously from another four-year school as an
undergraduate student?
A13: Generally, a student-athlete who has previously transferred from another four-year school
would not be able to use the one-time exception as a postgraduate transfer. However, a
waiver process exists for postgraduate students with a previous transfer history.

Also I seem to remember reading an article from last fall that an NCAA committee on continuing the immediately eligible grad transfer rule was set to vote on it last fall, but tabled the motion. Is it possible they meet again this spring and would give the OK.
Pretty sure this is what happened with Tre King since he had a brief stop at Georgetown.

He used the one-time exception to transfer from EKU to Georgetown and they denied his waiver to play immediately at ISU even though he never played a minute at Georgetown. He probably barely even practiced there. So, waiver is probably pretty strict.

It seems pretty random. Javan Johnson announced he was transferring in like early September last year I think and he was playing for DePaul by January so it’s hard to find any rhyme or reason that goes into it.

I think the illogical part stems from historically AD at a players prior school could give the OK for a 2nd transfer if the coach was OK with the player moving on. My guess is TJ was OK with Johnson going elsewhere.

In the case of Tre King he had an issue where Georgetown University was not going to let him play. And he had already attended classes Fall 2021 semester. So his chances to play immediately or within a year of transfer were more of a stretch.

We ever find out the exact issue that had him removed from the team?

The way it was talked about in a couple articles made me think an academic thing, but like nothing done on purpose or malicious? Just my attempt to read between lines.

Regardless, stoke to see what Tre does next year. I'm a big time believer in him.

I have never heard. The only speculation I heard was academic related. But that could range from something Tre might have done while at Georgetown or something was amiss with his EKU transcript.

Only vague explanation I've seen is "student code of conduct," although that could mean a lot of things. (Could include something academics-related)

A tweet by King included in the story linked below: "I made an inadvertent mistake that did not involve another person, but I recognize it was inconsistent with the student code of conduct."

Plagiarism. Not that bad, and ISU said they had no concerns of anything happening here when we took him.
