My expectations for the US are hopeful, but realistic. I'm trying to envision not being pissed off when I see us struggling to score, knowing that Pepi is sitting somewhere completely useless to the team.

We’re forever in this weird realm where our best shot at WC/International success is as a counter-attacking team, but our region is so bad that the fans would never accept living and breathing that style year after year in Gold Cups and CONCACAF qualifying to make it work.

Also, is this also a thread to explain why Qatar is terrible and this World Cup is soaked in blood? I understand it’s a little cave-y, but I think it’s relevant. And I’m not sure if a lot of casual fans will be aware.

Plus, considering that Qatar is doing this solely to sports wash, I think Qatar fails as long as viewers say “we know what you did and this World Cup isn’t improving our opinion of you.” I think everyone can watch and enjoy the World Cup as long as they keep that in mind and don’t let the World Cup improve their opinion of Qatar.

I have very low expectations for this US team. Hopefully we make it out of the group, but I think it's a coin flip between us and Wales at this point.

Not trying to downplay the atrocities, but I'd rather keep that talk separate and focus on the match-ups and results. Take solace that they got it right for 2026!

I'm surprised we're a slight favorite over Wales, but it's basically a coin flip like you mentioned. Bale and Ramsey really carry that veteran team. Find a way to shut them down and getting 3 points would be a great start.

I'll have my own personal battle trying to keep my wife from cheering for Gareth Bale.

We should play hack-a-Shaq against both of them in that game.

I either hope they play really well or it's so bad Berhalter gets canned. No middle ground, please.

I think USA stun the world and beat England but lose to Iran and Wales and don't make it out of the group stage

I think we can dominate Wales. Most of their talent is old now. Ramsey isn't that great anymore. I have no idea what to think with Bale. He hasn't played for club with "injury" issues. When he has played he hasn't look that great. Our midfield should dominate this match. Need to figure out a combination that can actually score goals up front though.

I will try to post the link later but my mates in the UK sent me a vid of fans from all the countries celebrating in the streets in Qatar. Rumor is that they are paid guys from India.
