3.7" in West Ames....actually had more last Monday at 4.1". Pushing 9 inches total in the last 10 days. If last night's had come as quickly as last week's, I think things would have been pretty ugly from a flash flooding standpoint with how saturated we already are.

Found a new site today where you can view recent rainfall maps. Unlike some other sites, it has decent zoom/pan abilities. The color bar is kind of a pain to read, though.

Around Ames:

Purple around Story City is ~4", the red between Ames and Huxley is ~3", yellow between Huxley and Ankeny is ~1-2", and the greens are sub-0.5".

My neighbor’s rain gauge said 4” out by the mall. I had to give them my shop vac as there sump pump was running sporadically. First time I’ve heard ours run in the last 2-3 years.

Ours showed 5.4 in. (not a typo) this morning in west Ames, far north of Lincoln Way. I also heard hail sometime early morning, but didn't see damage.

Ok that didn't post but about 20 min ago got damn windy, few branches down. Already a ton of water in our runoff areas and it's barely begun raining. Well saturated from torrential rain 2 days ago. Reporting house destroyed in Madison and lots of trees, not great to roll 75mph winds through 2 days after 65 and saturated ground.

A little late with my report, but i had about 3.75” at my house in ames from Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning storms. Around a 15-20 yr storm event, depending on how quickly it fell. I estimated about 6 hrs duration, but it could’ve been shorter.

Agreed. Also on this date in 1998 so much rain fell in such a short time the city of Des Moines declared a state of emergency as there was water almost 6 feet high in some intersections.
That I actually do recall. The ‘98 floods. I think DM Waterworks went under. Epic flooding on the Mississippi too iirc. National story for a week or longer.

Waterworks went under in '93. Suppose to be a 500 year flood until it happened again in '08. Waterworks didn't go down thanks to preventative measures after '93. But some of the flooding around the state was worse than '93 and was said had '93 not happened those measures would not have been put in place, and as bad as '93 was '08 would have been absolutely epic.

We had flooding in CR in 1993, seemed like it rained every other day all summer. The river flooding was in the spring, but there was plenty of basement flooding happening in July (I had water in the basement of the house I was renting on July 4th).

I do remember coverage of the Des Moines floods in 93, trucking in drinking water, President Clinton hugging distraught Iowans. They had it way worse than CR. That year, anyway.

Then June 2008 nearly washed CR away with a 31+ foot crest of the Cedar when it had never gone over 20 feet before that. 1993 floods didn’t prepare us for 2008.

Crops being replanted in W Iowa from hail the last 2 weeks. Missed us by 3 mi. either way. Sure don’t need 100’s and winds blowing. Long term weather says hot and dry into mid July.
