Anyone traveled I-35 between Ankeny/DSM or I-30 between Ames/Boone?
My manager said 30 from Boone to Ames was fine. Inside Boone was less fine.

A guy with 8 fingers probably.Guess who ran over a mile outside in -30 wind chills!

Cold weather question I'll insert here rather than starting a new thread, I've always wondered. When the garage temp is above freezing, I may have puddles from runoff that stick around for weeks, But when it gets as cold as it is now, the puddles seem to dry up within a day. Why is that? Why aren't they just turning to ice?
I was thinking the same thing. Honestly 17 wasn't bad. County line was a different story. Think about 15 cars had to be pulled out this morning before county was out clearing roads. Lots of southern friends are getting their first introduction to snow drifting across roads and little cars (even big trucks) aren't going to fair to well.Honestly, that doesn't appear that bad. i went out and it was sketchy in a couple spots on highway 18 but I checked the roads and had good traction. Traction and visibility are the too biggies.
Do you live by Jordan Creek or if you live in like Urbandale? If you live in Urbandale, it kinda makes sense.I can see a bit of 80/35 (near Jordan Creek) through my window and it seems to be moving slower than it was at this time yesterday. And it looks like it is snowing in my back yard from all of the blowing snow.
Probably just because this is too common for me as well…that video doesn’t look that bad.
Experience is big. The county roads will be the worst due to narrower roads and ditches. A lot more issues with close acreages also along them. Not a time to be using cruise control. Know some people going to the MSP airport to pick up their relative who is on leave from the military. Not good, but not terrible yet they said. Just take it 20 or so mph slower than normal and it seems passable.I was thinking the same thing. Honestly 17 wasn't bad. County line was a different story. Gonna go Sunday to Waterloo, but again we’ll see.I’m still aiming for tomorrow afternoon to make a similar drive to NEIA
Sorry Man. I’m really worried about the thaw here in a few days. No telling what’s going on behind my walls.Elliot got me, burst water supply line in my garage ceiling that feeds my upstairs washer and laundry room sink. Never has froze before and I even added insulation in the garage ceiling about 5 years ago. At least the plumber will get to work in a garage and not outside.

They say our brains arent fully developed until 25. Makes sense with the stupid risks we took back in those days. Was thinking too the videos aren't that bad, you can still see the road and see doen the road. Makes me think some of the times I drove to work or one time home for Xmas I maybe shouldn't have been. Little Celica plowing through drifts just white knuckling.
I think they want you to realize that these roads are worse and you should STAY HOME!I always wonder why they close and say use secondary roads to avoid the closure. Having used those roads at a time like that, they weren’t any better.
