I've definitely had a handful of "why the **** do I choose to live here" moments in the past few days.
Hurricanes.
Earthquakes.
Wildfires.
Creepy crawlies that think it would be a good idea to kill/maim us.
Lordy just saw it may not get above zero in Ames Friday through early next week. That's some ice fishing weather! Must be a party in MPLS if it's that bad in Ames. Spent a January in MPLS mid 80's training for new company. THAT was some bone jarring cold! Ames felt like Daytona compared to MPLS. Crazy how 15-20 degree difference can cause one to lose their *hit or not.
And, generally, too cold for the kind of botflies that result in larvae living under your flesh!

Snowing like it would in a damn Hallmark movie!
This cold weather with higher snow ratios sure adds up quickly! Went to shovel a few hours ago because it visually looked deep enough to get ahead of. Found out it is light as a feather and super fluffy. So I only shoveled a small area and that small area looks like it could be done again if it had the weight of a regular 25-30 degree snow.

Went from a couple of flakes to Hallmark in the blink of an eye.
Haven't seen one of these yet. I can see where it might freak peeps out a little if you came up behind it.
You truly know you live in a winter hellscape when they have to resort to busting out that kind of specialized equipment! Reminds me a bit of the mega-snowblowers attached to the front of the big trucks (with 6 to 8 ft high scoop / auger intake!), that I've seen used to clear the road shoulders to make more plowing room for additional snow.

Grew in a rural area where the gravel roads were not exactly engineered for winter travel. One was in a "valley" and almost every winter would get filled with snow. The hills on both sides were higher than the above truck, and along with drifts, some of the bad years the snow would fill that gap almost 20' deep. No s***,,,,,,,it was measured. The only way they could get it open was with a large back ho finished with a bulldozer. They have since grated the sides hills down to where the problem is much more manageable and something like the above truck would have no problem.
This is the special equipment at our work site. Will rip through 5-6ft+ drifts like they aren't even there.
