Hawaii grad transfer Drew Buggs is down to three.
Buggs announced on Tuesday that he will choose between Iowa State, LMU and Missouri.
A 6-foot-3, 195-pound guard originally from Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, Buggs averaged 9.4 points, 5.3 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game as a junior.
He led the Big West in assists for the second straight season.
Buggs’ former AAU coach with West Coast Elite, Ryan Silver, discussed what stands out about each program.
Iowa State: “They play in a great conference and are in need of a point guard.”

LMU: “Stan Johnson is building something special at LMU and is a future star in coaching."

Missouri: “Cuonzo Martin is one of the best coaches in America. He has unbelievable charisma and is a tremendous leader.”

According to Silver, Buggs will be making a decision shortly.
“He’s going to decide this weekend,” Silver said.

Well at least people can’t say we lost out this time cuz the team beating us out had so much more momentum. Pretty sure Depaul was bottom of Big East.

Guess we’ll see first hand next season what we missed out on or not, since we play them.
DePaul is good. They beat the Hoks like a drum last year. And the Hoks would have been National Champs if it wasn't for covid.

Not much of a source. When you post something like that you better really know what you are posting. Don’t tell everyone he won’t be coming if you don’t really know.

Things change. He's a good poster he doesn't make stuff up

Laughing at the comment about Martin

Buggs is a poor man's Connor McCaffrey. And people on this board love ripping on that kid. Again, I'm happy to get him and I hope we do, but let's be honest it's not somebody that markedly changes the direction of the season.

Buggs fits kind of well though. He takes Bolton off the ball for sure and our only even somewhat proven shooter is then off the ball. He's not going to carry us all on his own but with 4 open spots, a guy that fits like him is a fine get. Hopefully we add a shooter and a slasher with him and maybe then there's hope.

Interesting piece, from his highlights looks like he's desperately a non-shooter and played almost the 4, or scored on a lot of guard post-ups and what not. Intrigued how a guy can average that many a game while not shooting outside and having defenders actively social distancing while he has the ball at the top of the key.

This would be a great sit out. Not as good as his stats in a 3P shooters form, but it'd be very good.

Land a guard like Kier to go with Buggs would go a long ways. Add some shooting and handling at the 4 with Johnson or Dubar. That should be some good spacing.

Completely agree. I think some of our fans need to realize we have four spots open. Let's say we fill 3 of those spots with transfers. Not every one of them can come in averaging 12-18 points a game on 40% shooting from 3. I think Buggs would be a solid get if we could land a scorer like Kier as well.

If Buggs is the best transfer we get this spring, then clearly we will be having problems next season. And lots of them.

I think most everyone realizes that. Imo some have moved on to sit-outs and the following year. Get 2 good players (or at least better than Buggs) for this year and 2 for 2021-22. It’s a reasonable take given Buggs prior play in a bad conference.

I think Buggs has some Jake Anderson qualities. Or I hope anyways! Anderson shot 20% at NIU the year before he posted 34% on 3Ps at ISU! He was a smaller, tough guard that had a great senior year. Granted, Anderson was helped by moving off ball with DG, and Buggs won’t have that.

Buggs would be a great option for ISU. He is better than the four that transferred out by far and fills a role of handling the ball. If he played with pace, I could see him leading the Big 12 in assists next year.

I wonder if people would want Monte Morris transferring in since his points number wasn’t too flashy most of his career even in a fast paced offense. Sometimes there’s more to being a PG than scoring.
