*** Official 2015-16 NBA Playoff Thread ***

Bummer to see the Pacers go home, but it was good to see Paul George prove that he's all the way back from the broken leg he suffered two summers ago. That roster needs some work but with him and Myles Turner, they have a decent core to build around. I'd love to see them make a free agent play for Mike Conley but it could be tough to convince him to leave Memphis.

I don't think I've ever heard a commentator get that emotional over a missed call. Considering his alternative ending was still hypothetical and that San Antonio had a few chances to still get the win there, I'd say he was a little too stuck on it.
 
Ginobli stepped on the out of bounds line and clearly had his hands and arms well over the boundary as well. The play should have been whistled dead before Waiters even made contact with Ginobli.

Yeah, if you aren't going to call the foul on Manu because of the situation you shouldn't call the foul on Waiters either.

The problem is they cut off the replay to start from the last few seconds before the inbounds pass so that portion won't ever be as clear as Waiters making space due to the pace at that point.

Does the NBA have the same rules as college as far as the defender crossing the out of bounds line on an inbounds play?

I ask for 2 reasons:

1) the obvious one that happened last night with Ginobli

and

2) Game 6 of the Hornets Heat series. Late in the game the Hornets were trying to inbounds. Wade (I think) was guarding the inbounder and stepped over the line and the play resulted in the Heat getting a steal. No foul was called but Wade was way out of bounds. I tried to find a video but can't.

Typically, it's a technical and the inbounding team retains possession after the free throw.

That's what I thought but in the heat game I referenced I couldn't believe they missed the call because Wade didn't touch the line, he jumped and his entire foot landed out of bounds.

I tried to find a clip of that but I couldn't find it. I didn't catch that whole game but my only assumption if it wasn't missed would have been that the ball already entered the field of play at that point (doubting that though).

Another reason why no call was made last night may have not been because the nudge was missed but because Ginobili has a reputation for selling calls. If a player crowds the line like that then 95% of the time, the refs will play on.

I thought the end of that game last night was an extreme case of whistle swallowing. The entire sequence was a free-for-all. You could have called Ginobili for crossing the line, could have called Waiters for an offensive foul, could have called Ibaka for a foul on Leonard or Aldridge in the scrum under the basket - take your pick. And Billy Donovan really got away with one, because if the Spurs had scored then he would have been crucified for making Dion Waiters of all people his inbounder at such a critical moment.

Ginobili tried to sell that one too. Waiters barely nudged him and he did the classic flail your arms and snap your head back routine.

But if they make the call on Ginobili then Webber and a lot of the media would have pulled a 180 and claimed that it was a play-on moment this late in the game. Officials can't please everyone with these calls. I'm not saying they were right in not calling one but I don't necessarily buy it being wrong that they didn't either.
 
The Spurs got a wide open corner 3 out of that, so to me it's not a big deal. If Waiters had inbounded it cleanly and the Spurs never got a chance, it would have more egregious.
