thats honestly BS. Vogel wasn't the one screwing up team chem during the trade deadline.
I think Vogel is a decent coach but if they do lose in the first round than at least a major staff shake up needs to occur and they need to bring in a more offensive minded assistant. Their offense just gets bogged down so often, even when they were rolling earlier in the year their offense was only about league average.
Also, if the Thunder lose in the first round I would expect Brooks to be gone and that will be long overdue.
They miss Brian Shaw's presence in a big way. And Vogel is a good coach, but NBA coaches generally don't have a long shelf life. Given their sustained collapse dating back to February and Vogel's inability to figure out how to fix it, I'm guessing Larry Bird will go a different direction this year. Unless of course Indy turns it around and reaches at least the conference finals, which seems damn near impossible at this point.
Bill Self! Bill Self! Izzo! Izzo! Ollie! Ollie! You get the picture. NBA running out of old coaches who can fix things. Need new blood. How many times can these old NBA coaches be regurgitated?
That wouldn't surprise me at all. That whole team just looks like they can't stand each other now. Hibbert's fallen apart, it seems like 80% of their possessions end with either Lance or PG just playing hero ball and going 1 on 3 into the defense. Plus Evan Turner and Bynum both seem like two of the biggest ******** in the league, probably not a fun team to be around right now.

I'm sure this brought some attention to the organization, media and fans. When the season started the Pacers where looked at as the up and coming gunslingers in the East that had the potential to dethrone the Heat. It seemed the goal of the Pacers was to have the best record in the East going into the playoffs to have home court advantage, and they did get the best record in the East. The problem IMO the Pacers have run into I would compare to the 1500M race in track and field for example. You just can't start out shot out of a canon and expect to sustain a fast pace for such a long duration. At some point you will run out of stamina and strength to finish at the end when you really need your 2nd wind and kick. This is what the Pacers unfortunately have run into. I would blame this strategy more on Bird and Vogel not seeing this more clearly as an issue with their young Pacers players.

It seems as the quality of GM's has rapidly improved over the last few years, you are seeing more new blood brought into the coaching ranks and less rehiring of guys who have previously failed. It used to be very much an old boys club with the GM's just hiring guys they knew. But in the last year alone, Hornacek, Budenholzer, Clifford, Stevens, Kidd, Brown, Shaw, Joerger all were first time hires.
Terry Stotts is a good example of a retread that has worked, his offensive coaching style has really evolved during his time with Dallas since his last head coaching job and he's been very successful with Portland this year. But yeah hiring a guy like Mike Brown, Larry Drew or Randy Wittman is going to give you predictable results.
Agree. I think the recycling of old NBA coaches has run it's course and thank goodness as you are right about getting predictable results with those coaches. Holy cow how many coaching gigs has P.J. Carlesimo had in the NBA. Allot of former players as NBA head coaches and GM's, more so in the NBA then other professional sport it seems. A bit surprising to see guys like Kidd and Hornacek getting head coaching jobs after little to no coaching experience with Kidd and a few years for Horny as Asst./shooting coach. You look at their pedigree, experiences and coaches they have played for and the number of NBA hall of famers they played against is incredible and hoping they can take a high basketball IQ and teach and motivate today's players. I know Shaw was an asst. for the Lakers for 10 years or so before getting a head job and Patrick Ewing has tried several times and hasn't gotten a shot and he's been an asst. for 7/8 years. I guess that is similar to why we are seeing guys like coach Fred and Ollie at UConn being so successful.
Right, you can go the retread route and be successful; things have worked out pretty well for the Mavs with Rick Carlisle, and Dallas is his third head coaching stop. But for every Rick Carlisle there's a Mike Woodson or a Mike Brown or a Mike D'Antoni...holy crap, there are a lot of crappy NBA coaches named Mike.
No Kidding - Not to mention Mike Fratello. Hope they don't bring him back. Speaking of.. is he wearing the Marv Albert hair piece these days or just trying to look like Mr. "Downtown"

-Curry getting waist-checked and having his shooting elbow hit (which is an art form these guys have perfected to change the trajectory of the shot with just the slightest tough) and Paul also ran over Curry's foot before the other two fouls which would of changed his balance when he went to step back and set up for his shot. Most people didn't even see that. I agree on no calls allot of times and ticky tack *hit sometimes as well but sometimes the inconsistency is off the charts and mind boggling. At some point I think there will be a rule change where a shooter can't be touched AT ALL when going up for a shot. It's ridiculous they made the NO hand checking rule in the NBA 10 years ago but I guess that's when your out front with the ball and not taking a shot.

If OKC flames out early and Brooks gets fired like I expect he would, it will be really interesting to see who they end up hiring. I'm sure Ollie would be a candidate but that's a tough spot for someone with no NBA head coaching experience to walk into. You got two years to win a title and try to keep Durant before his contract is up. No time for a learning curve at all.
Dunleavy the reason Bulls are in this game, but just made a bonehead move on that inbounds play.
