This is a crazy idea that popped into my head...how about the "outcasts" from the Big 12 get together with Notre Dame and make up their own conference (assuming ND won't join the Big 10). We can just bend over and take it from the Irish and give them a larger portion of the revenue than the rest of us but in exchange we get the national love affair that everyone has with ND. Everyone gets major t.v. exposure by playing ND and we add some other decent schools like BYU, Utah, Cincinnatti or perhaps ND can pull in some other schools out east.

Anyone else think this wouldn't be as bad of an option as it might first seem?

I had a thread about this awhile ago. I don't think it's as far fetched as everyone thinks, but I do think it would require the Big Ten to act first, effectively cutting ND out.

Apparently you have just started following college football. If/when ND joins a conference it will be the B10, not rejects from the B12.

How would that benefit ND in any way?

Not sure it would, just throwing it out for discussion. I would think if these "superconferences" are all formed like seems to be happening, ND may have a hard time getting a schedule set up like they have in the past....maybe not.

Since super conferences seem to be the new fad, I hope SEC, ACC and Big East expand too. And along the way, ISU gets picked up. The natural choices those conferences may consider in expansion are quickly getting selected by other conferences, and soon they may look to the likes of ISU, kSU, KU....

OK, I am being blindly optimistic!

Exactly.

If ND doesn't go to the Big 10, they will never go for this idea.

I would guess the Big 10 isn't offering to give ND a disproportionate amount of the conference's revenue as they would be getting in this scenario. Not saying that this would still make sense to ND, however it would be a different set up than the Big 10.

I've put up ND threads like this before. I do think ND thinks like TX, that they're one of the "belles of the ball" and they can command attention like the 'Horns. ND forming a conference independent of the Big Ten and soon-to-be Big 16 would be a way for ND to continue its independence while pulling in additional conference network TV revenue. ND, due to its very strong NYC/East Coast following, would be able to form its own network, and forming its own conference makes scheduling much easier in the coming age of super conferences. Who gets to join is wholly separate debate. No, this idea is not far-fetched at all IMO.

CAUTION: you are about to read a long post

first off, i dont think that notre dame would be up for forming their own conference..especially with a bunch of big 12 rejects..they might as well join the big east if you add in cincy, pitt, etc..
second, lets say that the texas schools (-baylor) leave for the pac 10, along with colorado. nebby and mizzou join the big 10. the big 10 decides to scalp pitt from the big east and becomes the big 14. so ISU, KU, KSTATE, BU, OU, OSU are left without homes. OU and OSU could be attracted by the SEC but would an opportunity arrise where they want to keep the B12 together, since they would basically be the power teams? the big 12 could stay halfway together--and add a few teams. tcu and utah see an opportunity and say "hello big 12." and then there were eight. the big east needs to even out their teams and cincy says goodbye. cincy joins the new big 12. just for fun, arkansas says what the hell and joins the new big 12.thats ten teams. my creativity has run out and i am out of any more teams. hopefully, we can form the big west conference

The Pac 10 raid on our conference will be the stick the prods ND into the Big 10. Look for the new Big 10 to be finalized one week after the official PAC 16 announcement

Notre Dame

I'm hearing a lot of talk that Nebraska holds the keys to how college athletics will be shaped for upcoming generations. However, Notre Dame may possess a bigger role in how these shape out.

Notre Dame joining the Big Ten= No Mizzou and Nebraska to Big Ten.

No Mizzou and Nebraska to Big Ten= Big 12 stays in tact.

Iowa State needs to be petitioning Notre Dame to help us out a bit by joining the Big Ten.

Petitioning? Hell, we need to be offering to write a couple million dollar check, as we're sure to lose more if we drop a level.

Whatever it takes, I really won't be able to put up with Iowa fans if this does happen.

Remember that ND is independant in football only, and is a member of the Big East in all other sports. Just like any other school that leaves a conference, they most likely would owe the Big East $ in order to leave.

Do you really think ND cares about helping out ISU? Seriously, ND joining the Big10 would help us, but helping us is the least of their worries.
