North Dakota St. Game?

North Dakota has quite a few key players suspended for that game. I have friends coming down from Fargo for the game and they have no confidence about the game, despite the fact that they know our recent history in football.

Iowa State 35, North Dakota State 21

I think that due to the fact that they aren't returning many key players, we should win pretty handly. I think our offense will pretty much score at will, barring dumb mistakes, and the defense should be able to handle these guys. I'm think about 48-13 does the trick. Keep in mind that one of SDSU's TDs last year was on a freak play where they actually fumbled.

IMO, it would be disasterous if we lose this game. Losing to Kent State two years ago was whatever and UNI was bad, but we were all mesmorized by Chizik at the time.

Things are different now...

The year before they beat Minnesota, they almost beat them in Mason's last year. They missed a last second FG, IIRC, and lost the game. No question there fans will travel and I think they have quite a few Alumn in the Twin Cities.

Yet you give them 21 points, and only us 35?:skeptical:

If this game is as close as 35-21, mark us down for a 1-11 season. We need to dominate this game if there is hope of a solid season.

Their fans are really, really, really, die hard - annoying.

As the game gets closer, I would expect to hear more and more about their "chances" of beating ISU.

If they score more than one TD against us you can pretty much assume our D will bite again this year.

Just once I would like to see an Iowa State team come ala Lawrence Taylor -- "like a bunch of wild dogs" and bury a team so that the third and fourth quarters a bunch of third and fourth stringers can get out there.

I sort of think that's what's been ISU problem as well. The bench players didn't see enough playing time.

I think they upset UNI a few years ago. They must be a decent 1-AA. We should blow them out, right?

UNI lost to either UND or USD (I'm pretty sure it was the former, but not certain) a few years ago when that team was DII.

Agreed, I was at the North Dakota State/ Kansas basketball game at the Metrodome this past March and the ratio of Bison to Jayhawks was 8 or 9/1. Their fans are ravid and should make the game interesting. Many made the trek to Minneapolis despite the looming major natural disaster (flood) that about to take place in their town.

I can recall only one such game: 2002 vs Tennessee Tech, a 58-6 win.

They have a solid program with an above average coaching staff. They get a few "Big program" rejects every year. THEY WILL BE VERY TOUGH!!

Explain this, their O Coordinator has been at NDSU for 12 years, and never coached at a D1 school.

Their D Coordinator was an assistant at Wyoming for a couple years. Please explain this "above average" staff?

NDSU will tire before half time, as I would guess most of our 2nd stringers would start for them. ISU must blow them out of the water.

First of all, during the offseason NDSU hired a new offensive coordinator (Brent Vigen) and defensive coordinator (Mike Breske). It will be the same systems on both sides of the ball but the play calling may be a little different.

Second off, NDSU lost a ton of seniors that were the backbone of NDSU for the last 4 years., the top ones being Ramon Humber (LB), Mike Maresh (LB) , Tyler Roehl (RB), and Kole Heckendorf (WR). Heckendorf is only the greatest WR to ever play at NDSU. Ramon Humber (In NFL now) and Mike Maresh were both good for 100 tackles/yr. Tyler Roehl (RB/FB) had two 1000 yard seasons in a row (he is the one who ran for over 200 against the gophers). You combine all of those losses with about 6 or so current players being kicked off the team for academics/legal infractions, and you lose alot of experience.

As long as we dont turn the ball over all night, I dont see NDSU beating ISU, but thats why they play the game.

Not quite
Brent Vigen begins his 12th season as an assistant coach at North Dakota State.

But I will agree that it will be a run heavy offense that will run at least 60-70 % of the same plays from last year.
