Who can tell me what we're up against in this game...I don't know anything about them. Honestly I'd never even heard of them until I saw our schedule...

What offense are they gonna run, what defense are we gonna see?

Why do some reviews say it might be close?

Because we're coming off a 2-10 season with 10 straight losses.

This.

But frankly, most of the pundits you see writing garbage calling this a close game are idiots who have done no research--they look at records and just extrapolate idiotic conclusions.

They have beaten a few Div 1 teams in the last several years. Maybe Colorado and Minnesota? But they were down when they lost to them, whomever it was.

A former Nebraska assistant coach, Craig Bohl, is the head coach. He and his staff have done some good things up there. They lost to UNI last year, but defeated Minnesota the year before.

Here is their Web site link Football - News - North Dakota State University if you want to find out more about them.

I just picture these guys as tough as nails. I mean, anyone who goes to Fargo on their own free will has to be tough.

They just made the jump in the past couple of years from Division II to Division I. They were a perenial Division II powerhouse and won several National Titles.

NDSU gets a lot of the talented MN kids who don't get an offer from Minnesota.

They're a tough team to play, they beat Minnesota in Minneapolis a couple years back (although that was Minny's 1-11 season).

They'll come ready to play and won't be a push-over in my opinion. We will be more athletic, but they will be solid in both O & D lines and I think we're going to have some trouble stopping the run.

ISU should win, but my guess is NDSU will play tough, especially in the first half and will most likely expose some of our D-line weakness.

I've been hearing that they have lost their starting QB and RB. I've also heard that they've lost their top WR by means of the coach kicking them off of the team. IIRC, they've lost they're top defensive folks.

I think it's safe to say that everyone who picked this game to be close or even picked NDSU to win, hasn't done their research any further than they beat Minny a couple years ago and have been competitive with some other BCS schools in the past. Put it this way, SDSU beat them last season and we kicked their faces in.

I will say this. If we struggle to run the ball and get pressure on the QB like we did last year vs SDSU then we will again be in for a long season.

It's NDSU's 2nd season as a D1-AA(FCS) school.

They lost to South Dakota State by 1 last year, a team we handly beat.

They get some hype because two years ago they were ranked #1 in D-1AA, beating FBS teams in Minnesota and Central Michigan. However last year they were 7-5 and lost their season finale to South Dakota State who ISU beat last year 44-17.

This. Plus they graduated their star safety, WR dismissed, and RB walked out.

I think they upset UNI a few years ago. They must be a decent 1-AA. We should blow them out, right?

I am expecting a similar result to the SDSU game last year. Something like a 44-17 Final. Then get ready for game 2.

Last year was the first year that UNI had played them in like 20 years. They just moved into our conference last season after completing their transition from D-II. We beat them easily last year.

They lost their good running back, but their QB is back (who is terrible). They do not expect much from this season as they are rebuilding. I would expect ISU to win easily. They are not very athletic, and will try to run the ball alot. Expect them to bring a ton of fans to the game though, as they have a great following.

I don't count anyone as a sure win. NDSU has nothing to lose. They will have a lot of people at the games as they did against Minnesota, and their fans will be fired up. On the flip side, it's our first game with a new coach, new offense and defense. Iowa State should win, BUT, if I'm a player for NDSU I'd love to put sand in Iowa States beans. No reason for ISU to be cocky about this one.

Is there ever a reason to be cocky? There is a reason to be confident.

Well I guess we need to make this a momentum win then. Especially due to the fact that we will have a lot of days to rest in between, which could be a good thing or a bad thing. Its not really a statement game because in my eyes its a game that we have no business losing. However don't underestimate any opponent. I can't wait!!!
