Agreed. The 2002 game was the craziest, drunkest evironment I've ever experienced in my life. I know after that night they decided not to have this game at night ever again. I'm guessing they have forgotten what a **** show it will be.

Guarantee you it will be a long time before this happens at night again in Iowa City.
Iowa doesn't have the cocky mouthy players like Fred Barr it did in 2002

Curious if you guys feel that about the Hurky game in Ames at night, still bad idea? Or is this an at Iowa crowd thing only?

It's much, much crazier in Iowa City because the tailgating is so different and everyone is right on top of each other. Not to mention downtown Iowa City is light years better than Ames so the after game partying is out of this world - at least it was back when the bars allowed 19 year olds in.

In '08 and '10, when I worked in the AD and attended this game, we had eggs, full beer cans, and rocks thrown at our official ISU vehicles as we left the stadium area and most of the way down Melrose.

And that was after we lost during 11am kickoff games. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near Kinnick in an ISU shirt or vehicle with anything ISU after a night game, win or lose.

@TBinBETT I don't really care if you believe it or not.

But I'll never attend a game at Kinnick when ISU is playing, and I don't have any reason to attend other games there. I'd happily go back to Lincoln or Columbia if ISU still played them and back to Lawrence or Manhattan. And any other Big 12 stadium, because I've never had such ****** experiences because of who I worked for at any other stadium.

Just to be clear, Iowa has no say, at least officially in the start time of this game. Night games starts are scheduled by the conference in the preseason. Does Iowa put in "requests"? Maybe I don't know. Free to is on the record not liking night games as it messes up their schedule.

Also, referencing the BTN. Jealous much? I know it's no cyclonetv, but it's ok.

Still bad, but not nearly as bad. A night game with anyone else against anyone else is fine.

Jealous of the money? For sure. But that's about it. It doesn't do much for exposure and would be a definite downgrade for our basketball program. Outside of one football game and a handful of crappy basketball games, our games are on national TV. And cyclones.tv, despite the ridicule it received upon announcement, has been more successful than anyone imagined.

Most of the degenerates from IC will come to Ames, so it won't be harmless, but there are more tailgate areas in Ames. Not as many mouth breathers crammed into tiny locations.

God speed anyone going. I went in 96,98, and 00 in college. I'm fine with never going back. My whole family is Hok fans and season ticket holders too. No thanks.

This. We're a basketball school and it would suck to have to play games on there

The problem in IC is the location of Kinnick. It's in the middle of a neighborhood, and there are lots of rental properties with students. Thus house parties. So lots of super drunk youngsters, both students and visitors. All of them boiled and belligerent.

Imagine if a bunch of Hawk fans had to walk down Franklin on their way to the stadium, after a full day of drinking by the denizens there. That's the equivalent I think.

It's going to be nasty. I'm impressed with any Cyclone fans that actually want to go attend that game, because iowa fans are by far the worst I've ever experienced. I mean, it's one thing if you're running your mouth, but getting full beer cans thrown at you for wearing the wrong color shirt? Ridiculous. I've been to 3 games there and won't go back. It's just flat out not worth it. Night game will be worse.

A couple brothers I know went to the 2002 game wearing ISU garb because of a newly- formed friendship with coach Dmac. They wanted to support coach Dmac

They grew up lukewarm Hawkeye fans but quickly learned how many a-hole drunk Iowa fans there were out there- catching abuse in the lots and getting threatened while waiting in line at the turnstiles

Every Hawk fan needs to don ISU attire for a couple weeks around eastern Iowa to realize the level of a-holishness and low rung doooshbags there are in their own fanbase

..and theyre in complete denial as to why every border schools' fanbase hates them-- especially Minnesota's fanbase.. They actually believe they're the envy of the entire Midwest

Let's talk for a bit about how collectively hammered Iowa City is going to be at the beginning of the game.

Over/under on the number of alcohol related arrests tomorrow? Over/under on VodkaSam's BAC at 6pm? I'm honestly predicting that this never happens again (ISU vs. Iowa night game).

YA! Why expect people to act as adults?!?! Lets just take night games away FOREVER! I hate fun too!

Yeah, those days are long now. Tailgating in Iowa City has been heavily curtailed and the bars aren't anything like they were back then. Taking away half the available market will do that. Ames has caught way, way up too.
