Well if the fancy restaurants are all full, looks like it is Jethro's for a Wing Fest - nothing says 'I Love You Dear' like wing sauce dripping from the chin.

If you have the means Baru 66 and it isn't even close. 801, alba, and Django for less fancy. Christopher's, speakeasy, Latin king, and the likes if you're going as a family

These restaurants will be swamped and you might be disappointed with food, service etc, so expect that. Latin king or 801, but just be prepared.

If price is not a factor and you want nice, yes 801 Steak & Chop is #1. Just ate at Christopher's after not having been there for years....forgot how good that place is t too (but not nearly as upscale as 801).

Exactly correct. Sam & Gabes is one of the absolute best restaurants and dining experiences in the metro.

Sam and Gabes is one of my favorites as well.. only didnt list it in my initial post because i didnt think 'steakhouse' when i thought of S&Gs.

FWIW, the Register's food critic was pretty hard on them last fall:

I’m not claiming it’s all bad there, but the marketing of this place sets you up to expect fine dining, but fine implies sophistication, not the fake plastic plants that litter Sam and Gabe’s dining room nor the inelegant drop ceiling overhead. Fine implies a dress code, not the jeans, T-shirts, shorts and flip flops that seem de rigueur among customers.

If you want both quiet and good food I don't know of a better option then 801 Grand. I've been to every place that's been mentioned and some of them actually have better food but for the whole experience, 801 Grand is tops. A lot of the places that have been mentioned have you sitting about a foot from everyone else.

Oops I just realized I have never been to Baru 66.

I love Cosi Cuccina. It is intimate with very professional wait staff. The food is also very good. Chuck's Italian Restaurant is also good and will probably have live music on Valentine's Day. Simon's/J Benjamins is wonderful too.

Probably need a consensus poll added by OP to this thread to get the straight scoop. Latin King and Splash has attracted a lot of attention. The bot says whomever said b-bop should be deconstructed. This is Valentine's Day and the gal wants to be wined and dined.

Unless you're planning on valentines day 2015, you're probably out of luck.

Seriously, go to Hy-Vee and spend $15 on some good ribeyes. Buy a bag of romaine lettuce, and some potatoes.

Even if you suck at cooking, you'll look like a HERO.

Count me in the Skips crowd, not for the OP who wanted a steakhouse but for the other individual that was looking for somewhere nice but not too fancy. It's a nice date spot with some delicious food, but the atmosphere is not overly snooty.

I really like the Urban Grill on 86th St. Excellent food and a good atmosphere. Nick's is also a good choice.
