NFL: NFL Offseason Thread

I'm way out of the loop on these things but I assume Wilson is still riding his tiddly winks 3rd round draft pick contract? That's probably helps immensely

Yeah, his rookie deal runs through the end of next season. But the team can negotiate an extension now, and if they intend to make him the highest paid QB in the league then they'd be wise to do it sooner than later because the price tag on that is only going to escalate once Andrew Luck sets the bar some time in the next year.

But they're not going to get Suh. It sounds like Detroit's going to be able to retain him. Bryant's not going anywhere; if a long term deal doesn't get done he'll be in Dallas next year with a franchise tag. Marshawn Lynch - who knows? My guess is that they won't want to tie themselves to a long term deal so they'll work some kind of deal that gives him some guaranteed money up front.

I'm not saying that he's not worth the risk. Personally, I think he is. But this is a guy that has required extra attention from his team, to make sure he stayed on the straight and narrow. Does he need it now? Who knows? But it's a fact of his history. It's something that isn't a concern for other top WRs.

Okie State is on quite the run of having their top talent all be knuckleheads.

I'm assuming the Vikings will hold onto him as long as they dare, to see if there are any prospective trade partners, and if not, just cut him loose. I get that Adrian feels like he wasn't supported, but really, what did he expect them to do? Any team would have done the same. Shoot, he got paid for the entire time he was on the exempt list. How's that for support?
Being that these guys have been coddled their entire lives it's not surprising that AD would think that the team should have just bent over backwards for him.

I see where the Inglewood, CA city council has approved the plans for the stadium that Stan Kroenke (Ram's owner) wants to build. Not looking good for St Louis. That will also take that bit of leverage away from all the other teams when they want funding for a new palace.

AP has over 2x the wear on him compared to Murray. What was AP going do to for the Cowboys last year that was considerably better than what Murray did?

I get that AP is one of the best backs in the league, but Dallas has one of the best lines in the league with a potent passing game. Murray is a top 10 RB.

I just don't get this one from the Dallas perspective.

I don't mind him as a change of pace guy or a reliable third down back in a RBBC situation. At 29 he's still good enough as a receiver out of the backfield to beat most linebackers. The trick will be limiting his touches to keep him healthy. Some team could get a pretty decent bargain for around 750K to a million.

Remember when he first came into the league and was heralded as the next coming of Barry Sanders? That was a crazy year. There were tons of people knocking Houston for taking Mario Williams #1 overall instead of Bush or Vince Young. Look at how that played out. Young is a washout. Bush is only mediocre. Williams has averaged double digit sacks over a 9 year career. That was kind of a crazy draft. It was billed as being loaded with talent, but really didn't produce any superstars.

Yep, Houston got killed for that pick, just another example of how completely stupid it is to grade teams' drafts the day after the draft.

Dolphins released there #2 and #4 receivers today, along with making it clear they are wanting to get rid of their #1 receiver, Mike Wallace.

Just silly. First time in a long time they've had a solid group of receivers and they're letting two go and possibly a third.

week or so late but still funny

Let's take a journeyman quarterback and assume he will outperform his career's worth of resume.

Yeah, I will never understand the thinking of some of these NFL GM's.

I think most knowledgeable NFL fans can predict when I guy will be a bust better than most NFL GM's can. Josh McKown will be a bust at Cleveland, just like he was at Tampa.

I guess it's the same reasoning behind some NFL coaches that have never done a thing anywhere, and have been fired numerous times, but yet will always get hired by some stupid NFL team.

This afternoon is the deadline for teams to give their impending free agents the franchise player tag. As reported over the weekend, the Cowboys will tag Dez Bryant and let Demarco Murray test the market. As of this morning, it's been reported that the Chiefs will tag Justin Houston, the Broncos will tag Demaryius Thomas, and the Lions will NOT use the tag on Suh.

Dolphins actually interested in signing Suh...with the addition of a CB in the first round as expected, and their 2 deep linebackers coming back (yes...Dolphins LB's were injured like ISU's WR) they could have a top 5 defense in the league.

Unfortunately, their QB has no weapons. Would love to see them sign Bush and Crabtree. Both will be cheaper than their worth.
