Bryant is a headache? Since when.

NFL.com reported that police in DeSoto, Texas, have been called to Bryant's house on at least six occasions, although there have been no arrests.

Additionally, he's got these stipulations in his current contract.

  • A midnight curfew. If he's going to miss curfew, team officials must know in advance.
  • No alcohol.
  • He can't attend strip clubs and can attend nightclubs only if they are approved by the team and he has a security team with him.
  • He must attend counseling sessions twice a week.
  • A rotating three-man security team will leave one man with Bryant at all times.
  • Members of the security team will drive Bryant to practices, games and team functions.

Come on, dude. The specter of trouble is constantly looming around him. He's a hothead. The team knows it and have taken special actions to prevent him from getting in trouble. Perhaps nothing of significance will ever happen, but it's there. Now, he's got a load of talent, and is probably worth the hassle, but it doesn't change the fact that he is a headache.

Somebody explain how he's remotely worth having around if you have to watch him 24-7.

he caught 16 TDs last year, 13 the year before, and 12 the year before that. The guy is one of the top 5 WRs in the game, and there's not really any arguing that. He's a hothead, and there's always the potential for trouble is higher with him than other players, but there's no ignoring his talent.

This is going to be a very interesting story to watch unfold. This is a huge offseason in Denver, there are a ton of expiring contracts. You take away Peyton and you have a lot of freed up money to resign multiple key starters.

That obviously then leaves a big hole at QB. Osweiler is a complete unknown. Elway has been around him for a few years now so if he thinks he's worth a shot on for a season to see what he's got, I'd support it. They could use the cap money freed up by Peyton's exit to strengthen the team around Osweiler

He's a top 3 WR in the game...

As a Chiefs fan I would kill to have Dez.

Not sure numbnuts Alex Smith would look his way if he ran down the field farther than 10 yards though.

I'm certainly not arguing the talent but it's not worth it.

Much tougher to find and field a proven, stud, every down RB than a stud WR. Even more important for a team that prefers rushing the ball. I'd definitely keep Murray over Dez.
Same here.

Brady has shown receivers do not have to be top notch on short or long passes.

DeMarco is similar to Marshawn, who might be retiring. Running backs are good for only so many years so when they are good, run them and pay them.

well, I doubt you'll find a single NFL GM who will agree with you that he's not worth having on the team. His production speaks to that. It's the cost that might be the sticking point for some.

Any team would want him in spite of some of the issues. He's an elite player in a position with a steep talent curve. He's had some issues, but he seems to be to a point where he's worked through them for the most part. For the Cowboys, it's not like they wouldn't know how to deal with his personality. They are already doing that.

Those are fair points, but it's worth noting that of the six calls to his home, none that involved him directly were all that serious, and several of them either didn't involve him at all. More details here -

And the curfew, etc.? Those were rules established in 2012. It's possible that he may have matured over the last 2+ years and he no longer requires that type of supervision.

Is he a gamble? Sure, but any time you shell out a big long term deal it's a roll of the dice regardless of the player.

I'm not saying that he's not worth the risk. Personally, I think he is. But this is a guy that has required extra attention from his team, to make sure he stayed on the straight and narrow. Does he need it now? Who knows? But it's a fact of his history. It's something that isn't a concern for other top WRs.

I don't understand all the rumors that the Vikings don't want AP back. The front office has been saying all the right things about planning for his return next season.

I think they want him back, but at the right price. He's got a huge salary for the coming year. If they could get him to agree to negotiate it down, I think they'd take him back in an instant.

Heard an interesting rumor from a friend today. Not sure where he heard it, but he said that the Cowboys want Adrian Peterson bad and are considering giving up DeMarco Murray and 3 future first round picks. I have to think to myself that no team is dumb enough to give up that much for one player, even if it is the greatest RB in NFL history. I would hate to see Peterson go (especially to the lamest team of all time), but if I were the Vikings GM and got that offer, there is no way I turn it down. Murray is a great RB, and imagine what you could do with 3 first round draft picks!
