I hope next year McKay can develop a bit more of an inside game. He should have nothing less than a double-double every night. (ok, maybe not every night, but many of them)
I really think he could be the tough minded leader of the team next year. Seems like he is always the guy trying to share his energy.

I'd just like to see something different tried when what you're doing isn't working. But instead, we never changed anything up at all. Kept jacking 3's, even though nobody was hitting. Kept having Niang go one on 3.

I just didn't see any coaching adjustments at all, and the ones we did see were kind of baffling.... like not staying with the hot hand of Matty Ice when he was the only one hitting shots? Not pressuring more on defense to mix it up a bit? Puzzling.

My take is you know jack **** about basketball and what it takes to play it or coach it.

They are more physical, had better quickness and athleticism, as well as a knack for the ball while we like to run. Bad combo. Obviously we could have done better. Most times we do. It sucks it was today, but it is going to happen at times with our roster.

Marcus Fizer has been throwing it out on facebook and twitter that he's going to get in touch with Fred to see if he can join his staff in some capacity.

For starters, I don't buy that they were more physical, quicker, or more athletic. Sure, more so than Niang, but he's worked past that before.

Second, none of that is a good reason for not boxing out. I'm not talking about not getting rebounds. I'm talking about legitimately not being in any form of a position to box out or making any effort to do so.

Rebounding, like defense, is usually an effort and fundamentals thing. If you know as much about basketball as you think you do it surprises me you don't know that.

I could probably find a moment in every game this year where our defense wouldn't be sprinting off screens. Whether we were going under, over, or just switching on screens, every single game we had moments on defense where we would WALK around on screens and allow a man to be open for three, or a man to roll off and make an easy lay up.

I coached a middle school team this past winter, and that kind of effort from the young ladies earned them an automatic spot on the bench and team running in practice. And defensive effort wasn't an issue the second half of their season, in which they went undefeated the rest of the way including wins over teams they lost to in the first half of the season.

Which makes me wonder where the **** these players get it in their heads where they can just let these other teams make these simple plays.

He doesn't have coaching experience, which would be nice. In saying that whatever Fred wants I want.

Regarding Long, if it were up to me, his *** would've been on the bench and BDJ would've been starting over him.

All-Around skills, BDJ is better. A little more mental, a little more crazy. But there's no denying, all around skills, BDJ is more talented than Naz.

Naz is a 3 Pt specialist with pretty good hands. That's about it.

The issue was, if Naz was coming off the bench this season, Thomas likely is playing less than 10 minutes a game and transferring this year. And no Thomas = losing by 5+ today.

The only way I don't see Naz starting next year is if we land Diallo. That would more than likely make Naz our 6th man and backup PG.

Why can't people accept that Fred and the players aren't untouchable? Something was just "off" with the team this year. Fred's a top 10 coach, no doubt about it, but sometimes I wish he'd get just a bit mad. This team just seemd to lack discipline. Maybe this is what is needed for Fred to take teams further in the future.

Yeah. In the big picture, he is still a very young coach. I'm sure a lot of these older coaches that get angry and fired up started as relatively calm coaches. Maybe this gets him fired up, literally and figuratively.

Funny how some threads are going on about Fred's a "good recruiter" but can't coach, then I get here, and people are saying we need one more level of talent to be a true national powerhouse. I come down much more on the latter side. Fred's done great, McGyner work on a roster construction that was a work in progress in many ways and certainly not elite...

None were elite by any means as recruits. None, save probably Monte (maybe McKay) are likely to have a shot at, much less a substantial career in, the NBA.

That's 40% of our starting lineup was 40% of IHCC's starting lineup not too long ago. Granted, that's an elite JUCO program, but impress enough to me you can almost win the Big 12 with that as a coaching job. Fred's a better coach than recruiter, so far.

Adding "one step up" there... finally breaking into the one-and-done pipeline, maybe landing a few 5* that might stick around a few years, would be great... much as I love how Monte and Georges had developed, and how much Ejim worked himself from a 3* to POY, and what diamonds in the rough were Kane and Royce, and solid role guys were transfers like McGee and Babb, we still need a Fizer beast if we really want to be something in March.

And just think.... just four months ago after one of our first games, we had posters claiming our second five could make the NCAA. And I only bring that up because I don't think some people realize just how much talent you need on a roster to do all the things well, including defend, rebound, guard, shoot, lead, battle through adversity, etc. Or more importantly, how there's very few teams that can maintain that mountaintop level of play. We can't forget that when we were good this year...we were really good and fun to watch. When we weren't... we seemed butt hurt because we had enjoyed so much the good times and wondered why they couldn't play that way consistently. Every guy on that team regrets letting down Cyclone nation today and how much they care is evident. To think otherwise is ridiculous and selfish.
