Next Up: Baylor (12-3, 2-0)

You didn't really answer my question directly, but that's OK.

Let me get this straight. If ISU grabs wins in all of their next 7 games, which includes Baylor & KSU at home and Okie St, Mizzou, and Colorado on the road, only to lose out, you are going to see that as an accomplishment?

As of today, right now, in the present, current time, the NIT is not an accomplishment. The real accomplishment is still attainable, making everything else obsolete.

There's fantasy and there is reality. Nothing is impossible, however. I'll say right now that an NIT bid would be a great accomplishment. I'd rather be in the NCAA and get blown out, if given the choice. That would be a greater accomplishment.

I don't look at the NIT with a jaded view for THIS team. Next year the NIT would not be an accomplishment.

A poll? At this place? Are you crazy? I don't trust the advice given from posters here, ranging from what constitutes as good food, movies, booze, etc etc. A poll would not validate the opinions of this particular bipolar internet community.

Post the poll anywhere you like. Hand out flyers at the mall.

Kinda important information if we are to stay on the same page. A year-end evaluation is obviously part of the job, but day to day evaluation is important right now.

Well, I did say "when all is said and done" which, I thought, implied the end of the season. In any case, at this point of the season, with who we've played and our results on the court, making the NIT would be a nice accomplishment for this team, IMO. Making the NCAA would be an even greater accomplishment, obviously. Just because you don't accomplish your ultimate goal doesn't mean you don't accomplish anything.

Anway, back on topic - I think Baylor will prove to be a little too much for ISU, as we might have a bit of a letdown after the tough loss to KU.

Bears - 74
Clones - 70

Fair enough. Doesn't change my belief that if ISU can put themselves in a position for a NCAA bid in the next 2 weeks, only to fold down the stretch, the "accomplishment" that would be the NIT would translate into nothing more than a missed opportunity. Then the staff will evaluate on analyze ways to make sure that opportunity isn't missed again.

Has this been an ongoing problem with you? I ask this because I'm a firm believer that some people would have no luck if it wasn't for their bad luck.

Blues, despair and agony on me.
Deep dark depression, excessive misery...

Let's just put it this way. There is a reason you will see me consistently place insurance bets against the 'Clones. Unfortunately, when the other team is favored you can end up with results like the KU game where my bet loses because the 'Clones cover, but they lose anyway.

I'm not dumb enough to think that my actions influence the games, but...what if I'm wrong and they do...

Is there any chance that you can become a Hawkeye football fan next year and predict a victory for Iowa? Step up and take one for the team!!!

If under that scenario, ISU makes it to the NIT, I will consider it an accomplishment, and here's why...

Those who understand major conference MBB understand that the conference season plays a large role in determining a team's post season fortunes. At the beginning of the season, many reasonable and knowledgeable people, including the Big 12 coaches, picked ISU to finish last in the Big 12. Those people did that because they looked at the circumstances surrounding ISU MBB (i.e. new coach, severely undermanned roster) and determined that it is not very likely that ISU can overcome these issues to have a successful conference season.

ISU may have won most of its non-conference games, but many of those games were against weak teams, with ISU being relatively fresh early in the season. The conference games will be against much tougher teams, and ISU's short roster will cause the players to be very fatigued come the end of the season. Just because ISU had a successful non-conference season does not mean that expectations should be adjusted upward mid-season, especially since it is known that the conference season will be much more difficult and expose ISU's short comings.

Your scenario could very well happen. ISU could very well start strong in conference, but burn out towards the end because of the undermanned roster. That doesn't mean that they haven't accomplished anything.

As of today, right now, in the present, current time, the NIT is not an accomplishment.

Yes it is, because ISU will have not finished at the bottom of the Big 12, and exceeded will have the expectations that reasonable and knowledgeable people had for the team.

You need to bet the moneyline. I won on the KU game. I would have gladly taken the loss even at 4.5 to 1 odds.

I guess I have missed those. I saw them for some FB games but haven't seen one for BB. I'll keep my eyes peeled. Do they come out really late or something?

They come out later that the actual point spread on my site. You can also buy points if the moneyline isn't posted to bring it down to a win/lose situation. Betting the spread isn't a true insurance bet if there's a window where ISU can lose the game and you can lose the bet. That just sucks.

I insurance bet on Iowa football most of this year and lost quite a bit...worth it. If they were going to win 11-12 games I was going to make some money for my pain.

WOW that had to be the most ridiculous 3 pages of debate I have ever read on this forum. I thought this was the predictions forum for our next game, not the "I know a different way to analyze this forum." I mean come on.............

Anyway, our family will be in Ames. Looking for a great game. Would concur w/ most others, close and we get our first conf win 68-65.

GO CLONES!!

I'm gonna say Bears over the Cyclones 77-68. You guys will keep it close, merely because of the turnovers we are prone to make. But free-throws at the end put us out in front.

While Dunn is a key threat, Perry Jones has averaged 22 points for the first two Big XII games. At 6-11 he can take it coast to coast and make it look easy. He had some adjustment issues before conference play started. He's just starting to come into his own. There's a reason he's considered a top 5 draft pick already.

Now all of that could change if we start trying to make the ESPN highlight reel and make stupid plays, and you keep your streak alive at Hilton.
