New Verbal

There must have been something they didn't like about him. That's all I was saying. It's just the fact that he's camped with Iowa multiple times, and he grew up very close to Iowa City. That makes me wonder why they didn't offer. Usually a kid with his size and recognition would get one.

Iowa backed off Seantrel Henderson for good reason. They backed off Rodney Coe for good reason. It could be fundamentals, technique, or attitude. Who knows? Must have been something. He definitely has the look of a future D1 lineman. I don't know anything about Meeker so it isn't fair to speculate.

Pretty sure we would've taken Seantrel if he'd come out and said Iowa was where he wanted to be. Glad it didn't happen for us, the kid and his dad ended up being a tire fire. But at the time, there's no way we wouldn't have taken the top OL recruit in the country. That's a little different from both Coe and this.

Okay, I have seen height as 6-4, 6-5, 6-6 and 6-7 and weight anywhere from 289-295. That isn't a huge discrepancy on the weight, but the height is all over the place. Is this just a matter of out dated information on some sites? Does anyone now how big this kid really is?

It's amazing that we're supposed to believe hand timed 40 yard dashes are accurate yet recruiting websites can't even figure out how tall someone is.

The only explanation I can see as reasonable is that one site's information is several years old. Not that that's any better.

Agreed. You can pretty much add 2 tenths to any hand timed 40 you see.

Please don't make us ISU fans look stupid saying dumb things like this.

Meeker did NOT have an offer from ISU, so how is it that we stole him again?

But don't be shocked if Meeker ends up at Iowa anyway though. If they strike out on all their other offers and end up having an open scholly as we get closer to Signing Day and offer it to Meeker, I think he'd jump on it.

I kinda know Meeker a little bit, and he is a great kid, but yes he is a BIG Hawkeye fan. Wears a lot of Hawkeye gear at school. I'm glad he's a Cyclone, but not holding my breath on it quite yet.

If anything, he might be too nice of a kid though. Not sure he's got enough of a mean streak in him or not? He's definitely got the size though. He's a very big kid, and not fat at all. He made Nelson from Xavier look small on the basketball court. Nelson had the height on him, but Meeker was MUCH bigger and stronger.

Hope he sticks with the Clones. We shall see.

They are full now at line by all accounts. They didn't offer because he was a projected guard and they are very full there. That simple. Same reason we didn't offer the tight end from the metro last year with ISU ties. Great tight end but we already had 2 in the class and didn't have a spot for that class anymore.

Agreed. It's just a little befuddling to me because Meeker has great size and could have solid potential. Plus he grew up 20 minutes from Iowa City. They bring in the other 4 in-state OL and don't extend an offer to Meeker. Smells fishy to me. That's all. I'm sure I'll get bashed for saying so, but it's just how I feel. It doesn't quite add up.

I've heard that the knock on Meeker has been grades.

The flaw in your logic is that you seem to think that iowa is always right on their evaluations. I'm sure that there was a reason why iowa didn't offer Meeker. Just like there was a reason why ISU didn't offer the Paulsons or Newborg. There was also a reason why iowa didn't offer Jake Knott. No one is perfect. Iowa could be proven wrong in 4 years. Or both schools could be proven right if Meeker is starting for ISU and iowa has better players on the interior OL than him starting. Or, ISU could be proven wrong and he's a bust. You never know. The only thing that is certain is that no one is perfect on evaluation and different coaches see things differently.

I never once said Iowa is always right in their evaluations. In fact, I have no problem admitting that from the outside it appears Meeker has all the tools necessary to be a solid D1 lineman. That's why I'm wondering why Iowa didn't offer. I fully realize they have already received commitments from quite a few lineman. However, Meeker has been a known commodity for quite some time. Either they simply liked the other guys better and didn't think they had room for him or there was something about him that they wanted to steer clear of. Either way I will readily admit there's a chance he could end up being a good get for the Cyclones.

I wouldn't argue against the idea that Iowa would have taken a commitment from Seantrel. However, I distinctly remember Iowa ending their recruiting on him and Ferentz took some flak for it from some fans because at the time no one really knew why he stopped the pursuit. The Coe example is kind of similar, but I'd say the Charles Rogers situation is the most identical. He played his high school ball in Iowa City, and certainly had D1 talent. Clearly there was a reason Iowa refrained from offering him.

Let's try to keep the discussion to the player recently committed to Iowa State and Iowa State's football team, ladies and gents. Thank you.

Iowa did offer Coe. Then he beefed up and he didn't like being called a d-line prospect iirc.

I'd have liked to land Nelson, Render, and Scheel last year. Especially Nelson and Scheel. Saw Nelson play in person twice. Kid is a freak.

Nelson (Matt) Xavier defensive end? Complete non-factor in the championship game versus Dowling. Kid still hasn't made a tackle and he was going against Jake Kirvin (bad back and recovering from a 2013 ACL tear) without double teams.

Looks like the coaches at Iowa, Iowa State, Arkansas, Stanford, Notre Dame, Wisconsin and Nebraska were all foolish enough to offer him a scholly.

Wow - your right. That one game changes his entire body of work plus his frame and potential. He should have ended up and Morningside.

Iowa just offered a brand new in-state OL for the 2015 class today. His name is not Meeker.

What is his name and is he projected to play inside or out? The suggestion was that Iowa didn't offer because they had already filled up their inside spots. This news wouldn't invalidate that theory if the new offer is projected to play tackle.

Rivals has him as a tackle.
