I don't think we will be limited by total number (85) if I am counting correctly. We should be able to sign at least 25 if I am right but usually on this stuff, Aclone has a better handle on it.

I disagree with that. Before any attrition, I counted around 70 returning scholarship players. That was counting Sed, Hamlin, Jennert, Bo Williams and Range. I'd assume that the first three are gone and the second two are likely done due to injuries. But that would still only allow ISU to sign approximately 20 players. There's got to be two more current players gone and another gone for each additional guy they sign next month. Of course, they could oversign a little and expect a few guys not to make grades. There's always a couple.

For the 25 limit, I think they're OK. I think that they could easily sign 28 plus Kron if they wanted. It's the 85 that is restricting them at this point.

I can understand the need to replace Sed and Jennert, so I don't have too much problem with this.

However, if you bring in 30 WR's, I'm sure you'll find a few that can actually play. Obviously I'm being somewhat sarcastic here, but you get the idea. You just cannot sign that many guys at any one position and still put together a TOTAL team.

I see a big problem of WR scouting on this coaching staff, and I also see a total lack of developing any of the guys we do have.

You always hear about how "so and so" is going to be a stud in the future for us, but then it doesn't happen. Sed never developed. Jennert looked all world in the spring game, but then never sees the field. Blanton was supposed to be surprising us as a true freshmen, but he's yet to do anything.

I just hope guys like Jarvis West, Albert Gary, and Young can contribute next year. I've heard the same great things about these guys too. Will they just be the next busts, or will they contribute?

I'm really starting to question our WR coach and our scouting ability.

I agree. Our WRs weren't great under Chizik (at least after Blythe, Moses and Davis left), but they have went downhill since. This staff has had time to get guys in to improve the situation. Jennert and Blanton haven't done anything. They brought in Gary and Young out of JUCO (yeah, Gary didn't play JUCO ball, but he was an older FR) and neither caught a pass this year. Now it seems like they're scrambling trying to find guys that can play. I haven't been impressed at all with the staff's development OR evaluation of WRs. Still early I guess, but there's a lot of progress that needs to be made.

Herman said this week that Jantz was signed to provide stronger competition at the QB spot. Obviously the coaches like him, but they like the other QBs as well. Both Herman and PR have said it's open competiton, so it will be. Horne was signed because he has experience, can go to classes now and has sure hands. And he was highly recommended by the coach at the JUCO and Jantz. The don't just sign a player for the heck of it, they check every recruit out. I like this kid's attitude.

This guy is a very good catcher. The only people that looked like they were good for the catch every time last year was Colin and Money. Does anyone know how fast this fellow is? 4.6 or faster?

4.5

Of course they are going to keep saying its an open competition. They want these guys to work hard. People tend to slow it down a little when they know they have a job. They want everyone on this team to be hungry.

I'm pretty sure this means Jantz has the job as of now. I really think its Jantz's job to lose. Not Tillers. Coaches were very high on Jantz, and of course they will say its still competition as they don't want anybody transfering before the season starts.

So because two redshirt freshmen (Jennert and Blanton) weren't ready yet and didn't play over Juniors and Seniors, the staff doesnt know how to recruits wide recievers? G
ary might be talented, but he hadn't played football in a year and was a RB in HS so I am not surprised he took a year to learn how to play WR.
If they didn't think Young could contribute at all, they wouldn't have redshirted him. They would have played him on special teams and in mop up time and let him use up his eligibilty this year as a SR. Instead, they are keeping him around to add a veteran presence for two more years. We have no idea if he is good yet or not.

There were rumblings that Jennert wasn't happy during the season so I can imagine that it just might not have been working out.

Currently the young receivers are not good enough to beat out Darks, Money, or Lenz so they still might not get a ton of PT, however Darks and Money are gone next year and I am glad that the staff has WRs in the system to develop.

He knows how to get open, can adjust to the ball and has good hands. Can't really ask for more than that out of a WR.

I wonder about speed and his ability to get past a DB that jams him. We'll just have to see. Let's roll with it and see what happens.

What an excellent observation! This guy apparently knows what he's talking about!

ha ha

:twitcy: Ah yes, the experts. Not enough shiny stars by his name. Doesnt run the FANTASY time of 4.3. Obviously a waste.

That may be true

it just gets old hearing the same crap. How many times has it been said what Jerry Rice or Emmit Smith's 40 numbers were? Not that fast. How about all the hyped players the last few yrs, yet the team being bailed out by the Jesse Smith, Knott, Willams of the world. Look what Jake Anderson did for the bb team this yr. You need solid good role players too.
