Nevada from a Nevada fan

Interesting note about Nevada: they once had a player named Deonte Burton in the 2010s or around there.

Sounds like they play similarly to us; should be a fun game.

The Nevada-New Mexico game that included on of the great comebacks of all-time is on YouTube in its entirety for those that want a closer look.

Thanks! And thanks for stopping by also. We're normally pretty courteous to newcomers, as long as they aren't db KU apologists (hi Tuco!). I'm certain that many of us were just trying to be funny. After the debacles in 2001 (*******) and 2015 (***) I am definitely not tempting fate by being anything less than completely humble. :)

A lot of us are just salty for some reason today. Or maybe some of us just really hate Colin Kaepernick and are taking it out on you guys for some reason, lol.

No worries we are on your message board after all, I probably shouldn't have even mentioned it.

Hey guys die hard Nevada fan here , wanted to give you guys a run down on our team hope you guys could do the same.

Our coach Eric Musselman is a previous NBA head coach with the king's an Warriors an to be honest in a way has copied the ISU model on college transfers

We only play about a 6 man rotation but go 8 deep

Cam Oliver our best player only a sophomore is the highest rated draft prospect from either team an should be a sure first rounder this year. 6"8 has a 40 plus vertical is a walking highlight real. Leads the MWC in blocks an spectacular dunks an has NBA range from 3

Marcus Marshall our sg is one of the most underrated gaurds in the country senior transfer from Missouri st should be on a NBA roster averaged about 20 a game. If you guys can stop Marshall an Oliver you will win

Jordan Caroline our power forward is a beast the son of former NFL great Simon Rice, only a sophomore has gone off for 45 an 30 this year an plays tell the whistle stops

DJ fenner our small forward averaging in the teens and a 40% 3 shooter

Those are our big 4 an where we get our production from

Curious to here about Iowa st hope for a good game

Nevada will be the next victim. Sorry for your loss.

I'm mostly just thankful that we got a matchup that should make for some fun hoops to watch. That's so much better than watching the slow-it-down, hackathon that comes with playing a Big 10-style team.

I expect ISU to win, as I think the seniors will be seriously locked in, but it's March. Nothing is a foregone conclusion.

When i first looked at Nevada's resume on paper I wasn't very impressed at all. Weak OOC and a weak MWC is what I saw. When I pulled up some film on them I became fairly impressed. Seems like an athletic team that can get out and run and shoot the three. They definitely pass the eye test as a dangerous team to me.

If we play well I think we win. If we slip up at all, they can make it very interesting and knock us off. It should be a fun game with these styles of play!

It's bad enough that we have so many that think they're funny guys, and then add to it the recycling of the same jokes because they (I'm assuming) haven't read through the thread.

But then if you go read Nevada's board, ours looks pretty tame. There are like 3 posts about the actual basketball game, and the rest just seems like they are trying to think of stereotypes without actually knowing any of them.

I think you're probably reading the MWboard (which is also good for discussion), but most of the comments you're referring to are from UNLV fans (they have a serious inferiority complex and use the same stereotypes against us).

Here is the Nevada board:

I think most of us are just happy to be back to the dance and with the incredibly quick turnaround from Musselman (we were a 9 win team two seasons ago). We haven't played anyone with the talent of Iowa State this season, so it's really hard to predict how it will go. Of course every team dreams and expects the best this time of year, and that's what makes it so great. I can't wait for Thursday!

Watching a bit of Nevada vs. Larry from 3/4.

Oliver's thick and athletic, and Caroline is maybe the scariest of the bunch...seems to be the utility guy and can score from multiple places, and there's a few guys that can do the same.

Looks like the kind of team that will take ISU a while to get adjusted to their 'game speed' and if they're smart with the ball and is rebounds like they did Saturday, ISU has a chance to find their groove and pull it off.

Always tough to tell with a new team that's so unfamiliar.

You make it sound like ISU is the underdog. I don't think it will take time to get adjusted to them.

It seems like every time I look at our opponent this time of year, I come up thinking they look like a combo of the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors. I'm going to try not to find out too much and hope for the best this time. I'll be worried enough Thursday without adding to my anxiety.

Last year, I thought I would never feel as bad to see us lose just because it would be the last time Georges was in a Cyclone uniform. Also loved Duley and Jameel, even as the problem child. This year, the thought of losing Naz, Matt, Monte, and Deonte seems to be weighing on me even more.

hindsight is 20/20 but with 8 seconds left in the game Nevada's coach was on the court and about 2 feet away from the New Mexico ball handler. The smart thing would've been to run into the coach to get the automatic T which is a legal thing to do. get free throws and pick your best free throw shooter.

No doubt on your first point. I start wondering how we even won a game and how the other team lost. I just have to remind myself that Nevada is just as concerned about us as we are about them.

And I feel you on your second point. Last year at this time, I wasn't sure we'd have Monte or Naz. But I still feel so sad that those 4 are seniors.

On a positive note, I just bought my tickets for Thursday and Saturday. I have gone to the NCAA tournament first rounds 3 times---1986 (as a 6 year old, who didn't realize that being at the Michigan game was a pretty big deal), 2000, and 2014. You will note that we made the Sweet 16 all three times. Last year I was attending the first round/second round in Des Moines while Iowa State was playing and they made the Sweet 16. I sort of think Iowa State should be buying my tickets.
