Nevada from a Nevada fan

If Deonte, Darrell, and Donovan all put up 34 when they get to go home for the tourney like Dustin did, we should be good.;)

Deonte said he was basically going to treat it as a business trip.

Deonte and naz were deadly serious when talking about the distractions. John basically gave deonte a softball and he was having none of it.

The criticisms of Nevada's schedule already brought up here are often valid, and the fact is that they haven't played a team of ISU's caliber this year. But neither of those are for lack of trying.

Muss went to great lengths to put together a more competitive OOC schedule this year. But most of the teams that were expected to be good and help Nevada's SOS completely tanked this year (looking at you, Washington and Oregon State...). Couple that with the Mountain West's traditionally strong programs (New Mexico, San Diego State and UNLV) all staying way down, and their league didn't give them any help, either.

It was only two years ago that Nevada went 9-22 and fired their coach. Now, they've gone through huge growing pains that have made scheduling even harder than it normally is. Right now, they're a "tweener" program: strong enough to pose real challenges for lots of teams, but not yet a big enough name for established programs to trust them in scheduling them. SDSU can get home-and-homes with Gonzaga and Kansas now, but it took them years of sustained success to get to that point -- a journey Nevada is only just now finally undertaking again.

The whole thing is a chicken and egg discussion. To have success, you need great players and coaches. To get great players and coaches, you need money. To get money, you need fan support. To get fan support, you need success, and around and around it goes. Such is life for a mid-major program out west. Not fishing for pity here -- that's just the way it is.

The fact is that we relish the test the Pack has been given, and are eager to see just how far we've come in two years and how far we still have to go.

Monte Morris is the higher than Oliver on Draft Express.

Also, Bilas must not know what an NBA PG is. I didn't even see their PG rated by Draft Express in their best Senior prospects but both Burton and Thomas were and of course Morris. I usually like Bilas but that was a stupid comment on his part. Maybe he got mixed up on what team Morris played for.

We have something in common with Nevada . . . Chris Klinakis!

Kind of interested in your take on what there is to do in Reno after visiting the National Bowling Stadium...

Reno gets a lot of grief (Reno 911), but it's pretty close to a lot of cool stuff. Lake Tahoe (see picture at left) is about 30-45 minutes away. More than a dozen ski resorts that have a ton of snow right now are easily accessible. Reno might be a poor man's Vegas, but still an interesting place.

And we have played (multiple games) against 5 guys rated higher than Oliver. I mean not trying to be disrespectful but think of the talent these seniors have played against. I am happier having nba draft prospects opposing us than not.
Yeah I keep trying to find a solid comp, but it's difficult.

Maybe a more powerful Iona. Marshall is a volume shooter with a high average like English, and Oliver is big, athletic, and gets to the line like Jordan Washington. Neither team defends well. Only difference is Oliver is better than Washington, and is much more versatile. And Nevada is from a better conference.

I think getting TCU instead of Kansas is basically the reason for that, even though both Okie State and WVU were quality opponents that could have easily made the games go down to the wire.

ISU basically controlled both of those games.

I just read this in a write up on Monte being in the top 25 players in the tournament (number 6 by bleacherreport(i know)) but thought it was absolutely insane. Had to share it.

"Monte Morris will finish his career as the NCAA all-time leader in assist-to-turnover ratio. In fact, for former Pittsburgh guard James Robinson, the current record holder, to finish tied with Morris, the Iowa State point guard would have to turn the ball over 60 straight times without an assist during that stretch."

The Cousy Award folks can go piss up a rope.

Iowa State needs to christen a Morris Award for the winner of the A/TO in the NCAA's with a minimum number of appearances. Straight up, Monte is the greatest PG in the country this year, consistently over the past four years, and probably one of the greatest ever. Kid needs something to show for that.

I think he would accept this as a suitable replacement for the Cousy Award:

It's bad enough that we have so many that think they're funny guys, and then add to it the recycling of the same jokes because they (I'm assuming) haven't read through the thread.

But then if you go read Nevada's board, ours looks pretty tame. There are like 3 posts about the actual basketball game, and the rest just seems like they are trying to think of stereotypes without actually knowing any of them.

Most of us don't really post on our message board anymore. We prefer twitter

Kendall Stephens is on this team!?!? Played against this kid in hs when he was a freshman on Varsity and always thought he was severely overrated, but had some problems with friends/family last year while at Purdue and he basically went MIA towards the end of the season. Surpridsed to see him on a roster, let alone a good team. To @Nevada do you know much about Stephens situation, I see he hasn't played this year, I assume he is sitting a transfer year?

Yes we have four sit out transfers this year.

Stephens
The Martin twins from NC State
And obviously you're aware of Cooke

Doing a little digging I noticed that Nevada had played Oakland....they came back from like 16 down at half to win.

Former Cyclone SDW scored 23 for Oakland in that game.

Side note: I worked at Lawlor Events Center, Nevada's home arena from 1991-1993. Basketball was not too good then. Definitely a good football school during that time. Their fb games with Boise State back then were epic.

Seriously, seems like there are some nice people here, and some seriously cocky a-pipes. I guess all fan bases have that though.

Thanks! And thanks for stopping by also. We're normally pretty courteous to newcomers, as long as they aren't db KU apologists (hi Tuco!). I'm certain that many of us were just trying to be funny. After the debacles in 2001 (*******) and 2015 (***) I am definitely not tempting fate by being anything less than completely humble. :)

A lot of us are just salty for some reason today. Or maybe some of us just really hate Colin Kaepernick and are taking it out on you guys for some reason, lol.
