***NDSU Preview.Predictions/Results***

Tanner is 8-5 in D1, not sure how 174 and 184 matches are split. I thought there is something about performance at qualifying weight.

Here's the D-1 matches for everybody who is a starter or key backup. I had to do some of it by hand since Cliff Keen wasn't input into the NWCA website yet and I wasn't totally sure whether some schools there were D-1 or not. So this might be off by a match or two.

Hall: 6-5
Bauer: 0-5
G. Moreno: 7-6
Goettl: 4-5
Nicholson: 5-4
Molina: 4-2
M Moreno: 10-3
Weatherman (174/184): 4-2/4-3
Weatherspoon (174/184): 7-3 /2-1
Beard: 1-0
Gadson: 7-1
Smith: 2-7
Perna: 0-2

We have at least 8 duals (6 normal duals plus at least two at the National Duals) and the Southern Scuffle left on the schedule. So the only wrestlers other than Beard that might have some concern about hitting 17 matches are the guys at 157/174 that are splitting time in the lineup - and that would be taken care of if they go to Midlands (I'm not sure if that is part of the plan or not). Unless Beard gets like 8 matches at the Scuffle he might have to go to that open tournament in February again this year.

Nicholson is 5-3 in D1 matches

He took the mat in his last match and injury defaulted during the match, didn't he? That makes it a loss. An injury default only doesn't count on the record if you never take the mat.

The 70% win %age is going to be tough for some guys, with Oklahoma, Ok State, Minnesota, Big 12 and Scuffle left. But the RPI's should be good

I did hear we are sending a small group to Midlands, but with Meeks and Nicholson hurt, it will be interesting to see if that still happens. I would think we would still like to get Larson and Weatherman/Weatherspoon there

Yeah, Coaches Poll and RPI will be the best way for our guys to get in with the tough schedule we wrestle in January/Febraury. That's why it is really important for guys like Gabe Moreno and Molina to pick up some nice wins at the Scuffle if they want to earn an NCAA bid for the conference. Especially Molina - if he or Nicholson don't earn a spot the conference will probably only get one bid at 157 and to steal it he'd have to knock off #2 Dieringer from Oklahoma State.

That really does suck for Meeks. Midlands would have been a great chance to show off the progress he seems to be making.

Even if Lelund is the only guy though, he needs to go to get matches. Plus both tournaments will have a number of ranked wrestlers at 174 so it is the last chance for both him and Tanner to show who deserves the spot going into the spring semester.
