NBA: *** NBA Playoffs Thread V2.0 ***

Fitzy and DC are just trolling CyJack but seriously James scored 16 points in the fourth quarter. The guy who would have gotten killed by the media was Bosh. He had a pretty rough night until overtime.

The move to take Duncan out of the game at the end might have lost it. The heat kept getting offensive boards. Bosh played huge at end of reg and OT and Allen hit the biggest 3 of his career. Lebron put them in that position. Say what you will about him. He busted his *** that 4th quarter.
I felt like Green stopped looking for his shot after a couple misses and Ginobli once again was a liability most of the time.
I don't like the heat but I love basketball and that was a freakin fun game to watch

Pop made several questionable coaching moves down the stretch. Just got badly outcoached by Spoelstra at the end.

This is one hilarious post here. What was the great "coaching move" that Spo made? He didn't sub after Wade came in for Miller. Tell us... what exactly did Spo do?

Yeah I agree. The one bad mistake I thought Pop made was not calling a timeout to get Parker back in for the last possession. The rest of them were understandable.

Taking Duncan out was very similar to Vogel taking Hibbert out. The difference is that a two would have won against Indiana so taking out your rim protector was stupid. In the Spurs case, the Heat needed a three so a rim protector wasn't needed.

I thought both coaches got stubborn with their lineups late in the 4th and OT. Manu and Wade were trading bad plays there at the end. It's not a coincidence that for much of this series, both teams have been better with them on the bench.

Did they have a timeout left? For some reason I was thinking they had just used up their last one.

Wade was at least solid defensively after he came back in at the end, but on the other end he completely kills the Heat's spacing when he's in there now. The Spurs are just daring him to take long 2's and he keeps trying to force stuff at the rim. I wonder how gassed Miller was by that point in the fourth, he looked like he was cramping up a couple of times during that run. He went from getting 5-10 minutes a game to playing major minutes the last three games. The Heat have basically cut their rotation to LeBron, Bosh, Wade, Miller, Chalmers, and Allen with Battier and Birdman getting a few minutes here and there.

I actually think taking Duncan out was worse than Hibbert. There was what, 1.9 seconds?, left in that game. 90% of the time in that scenario you're getting a jump shot going away from the rim and there's not enough time to get a rebound and another shot, plus it would have been easy to drag Hibbert away from the rim. In last night's game there was plenty of time left and obviously a rebound could lead to a second shot.

A tweet from Dan Le Batard:

"Heat were preparing to protest illegal substitution of Duncan w 5 secs during Allen review. Could have had game-winner, trophy and overturn"

I didn't even notice this in real time. It didn't end up mattering but that could have been a freaking disaster.

I don't get it. When was the illegal sub?

At the end of regulation. Remember that Tim wasn't on the floor to get the rebound? Well he magically appeared when the Spurs retook the court after the review (you are not allowed to sub during review stoppage).

Because Parker missed the shot, it rendered it irrelevant. What happens if Parker makes that shot though?

Didn't they call a timeout after that review?

Unless Tim Duncan and Tony Parker were truly out of gas and needed a breather, Pop ****ed this game up in a major way and possibly cost the Spurs a championship.

For the NBA's sake, they're lucky it didn't come to that.

But a rebounder was needed. Inexplicably, Popovich apparently forgot that the defensive possession doesn't end until the defenders secure the ball.

Personally, I just hate the strategy of making yourself small (relative to the offense) to guard the perimeter, especially, in the case of last night, considering the size of the Heat's lineup and shooters. Over my years of playing and watching BB, I've seen that strategy fail so many times it just boggles my mind that coaches do it.
