NBA Draft 2014

What does that even mean? How do you measure that compared to other players?

His blood flows more slowly without the muscular development in the center.

I meant more of the way that he doesn't hit a lot of big shots or really rise to the moment. On the one hand, you're not looking for guys picked late to do a lot of that, but you kind of want players willing to do it.

I guess that's why Bryce Drew had such a long and illustrious NBA career.

Maybe he meant that he disappears at critical times from the vanuted Iowa offense. White does the same. At key times, Iowa could use more offensive help than Gessell.

Lacking heart =/= missing shots at big moments. He carried Iowa on his back offensively a lot of nights when no one else would step up to take a shot as the opposing team was making a big run. He was the only one willing to take the big shots. A lot of them didn't go down, but he was the only one with the heart to take the shot.

Ok, so how about a guy like C.J. Wilcox? His team lost a ton of games this year. They could have used his offensive help. What was his heart rating? It must have been off the charts, because he got drafted in the first round.

I didn't say that. They were rolling some stats across there and they were dreadful. I get the whole ceiling thing but there was a guy picked at 21 who was said to be 4 years away from even being ready to play. Do you know how long 4 years is?

Yes and Toronto was roundly mocked for making that pick. That doesn't mean the current practice is some unspeakable crime against fair play and competition. Teams routinely reach on college kids and used to on HS players as well.

Wow... This thread brings it.

I think it's pretty obvious why a guy like Marble gets drafted over a guy like Kane. First, it is pretty clear from the draft that the NBA respects the type of ball played in the B10 more so than the B12. Second, Marble was a damn good player now. Imagine how good he would have been at the collegiate level if he were Kane's age... I mean it really is a huge advantage to be that much older than the guys you're playing against. It's all about what a player can become at the NBA level, and it's clear at his age Marble has a greater upside.

I get the upside part and the age part. I'm with you there. The rest of your argument, uh, no.

You're saying Marble being chosen 56th (that's a 5 and then a 6, not a 5 or a 6) versus Kane being drafted somehow proves that the NBA views the Big 10 > Big 12?

Sounds like Jon Miller is rubbing off on you too much. Check these glaring statistics out. I'm not even going to bring up last night's top 10 to prove my point further.

Troll on, fella. You're doing some nice work.

It appears that Deano's self imposed ban has concluded and he's back. He liked a post about 4 pages back. I'm sure that he meant he was self-imposing a ban during basketball season. Would make much more sense. I'm sure he'll do the same thing this year after we beat them in Iowa City in basketball.

Marble has improved tremendously, but the stuff Fran's puts out there for the scouts to lap up is humorous

Devyn a 'team-guy'...great teammate? plays great defense?

Wasn't he the poison on that team last March in the locker-room and on the court? and his defense is mediocre at best

The sooner he runs away from Roy Sr the better

Im sure you have proof of this? LOL.

DM wasnt a thug. He played for IOWA.

Good luck with that. Make sure to keep us updated with progress reports on how far you get with it.

This was a worthwhile response. You act as if I said I was going to do something about it.

I didn't say anything about fair. I said it's stupid. It doesn't make any sense to me. "Oh, here's a guy with a lot of upside. We are going to pick him, not see him for two years, and to top it off we basically have to recruit him because at any point, he can resign overseas and never come here. Yeah, we'll take all of that instead of Cleanthony Early, Patrick Young, Sean Kilpatrick and CJ Fair.

It was a response exactly as worthwhile as the pie in the sky suggestion that preceded it.

Pie in the sky suggestions like if someone is drafted, my opinion is that they should make an attempt at playing in the NBA? Alright. Any change to draft age or requirements would probably be a pie in the sky suggestion too I suppose.

Would you rather those teams just sell of those picks for cash? Because I guarantee that a lot of the teams stashing a Euro would do that before they take a college kid they have no interest in actually adding to the roster.

Yes.
