Must see places in Ames?

I watched National Prep this year on Flo. There was a 195 pounder named Cooley that looked good, but got hurt. Any relation? Don’t have to answer it either. Enjoy your visit!

Outside the campus/sports facilities, there are zero must see places in Ames.

he's not wrong! :) Must-See is a high bar to clear. Ames is more of the je ne sais quoi. No Eiffel tower or mountains, but a nice place to be. Catch the vibe!

Ok now I'm curious. Is it on Cameron School Road?

Not this again! South side of 195th St (gravel)

They're nice, worth the trip if you go to ISU, but maybe not worth the trip if they are short on time.

Agree with this. It is a nice small state park, a random pretty valley surrounded by otherwise flat farmland, and nice views of Des Moines River too.

FYI I believe the campground is closed for all of 2018 for upgrades and the main road may be pedestrian only for first part of summer. Still a nice spot as he said, if you are already in Ames.

If I remember right there is something special about the Dunkin Donuts lot, or more the house that used to be there. The house was moved awhile ago. I think my old roommate went looking for it but came up empty.

Yes, Austin Cooley is my son. He actually strained his hamstring during practice the week of prep nats, but tried to wrestle anyway as there were a few coaches there to watch him, along with Coach Dresser... he tweaked it again in the qtrs when the other kid hit a leg pass on that leg, so attempted to wrestle in the semi’s but couldn’t pull out the win and then his coach shut him down after that. (Which was the smart move)

Since you are out of state, the campus will probably take you some time and it has all the best Ames has to offer. If you fly into Des Moines, there is a lot to do and see there.

You might want to check out the academic building housing the dept your son might major in. One of mine was in Aerospace, so we really enjoyed Howe Hall with the wind tunnels and other things.

The campus itself has much public art as well as an art museum. There are beloved buildings that I am sure you will see on the tour.

Enjoy your trip.

Still got the tech fall, but the damage was done.. Just did some lifting and rehab until Northeast Regionals. Was at 205ish, but we toured Rutgers the day before and slept in.. he had no idea what he weighed when he stepped on the scale and ended up extremely light for 220, but he just wanted to see where he was at with the layoff. Will be at 195 for Fargo

The Russian kid from NMH.. he was pretty sure he was going to be able to win even hobbled, but wasn’t the case. Austin lost to M.Beard the weekend before in PA Preps, 8-4..which was his biggest deficit loss of the year.

Ames doesn’t have any huge attractions (although whenever you live around things they may not seem like big attractions). The area has plenty of leisurely and enjoyable thing s to do within a short drive, ames is a smaller town for many college towns, but nothing that seems must see to me.

Will you be fly8ng or driving in? If driving, there are things we could suggest on the way.

If Google has not failed me, you may be amused that there’s a portion of Ames referred to as Somerset. A restaurant there, Wallaby’s, has a giant version of Massachusetts native Georges Niang, that used to adorn the student section of Hilton Coliseum.
