Monte Senior Season

Correct. I'll go further. It would arguably be the best backcourt in the country. Morris, Long, Thomas? Seniors? Jackson, Babb, Cooke and Long off the bench? Holy Moly. I'll take it.

(even without Monte it would still be very "solid" and one of the best in the Big 12)

If Monte' decides to stay watch for Prohm to petition the NCAA for all games next year to be played with two balls on the court at the same time.

My source says Monte may or may not leave. And Naz may or may not leave.

Hines is asking those questions because thousands of people want to know the answers to them.

After the season would be fine...why put this stuff out there with rumors and conjecture when even Monte doesn't even know.

Because he has thousands of people wanting to know. And how would he know if Monte doesn't even know without asking?

Only way I could see Naz leaving (besides the chance his redshirt is denied) is if Monte doesn't come back. You think about it, Naz will have seen literally everyone in his Cyclone career come and go. Came in w/Georges and SDW, both gone. Hoiberg, gone. Kane, Hogue, McKay, Nader, BDJ all got here after him and will leave before he does. He'd still have Matt, but if there's anyone on this team he doesn't have warm fuzzies for, it's probably the guy he competed with for PT his whole career. He may want a fresh start, since he'd be taking the court with essentially an entire new group of guys next year anyway. If Monte stays, he stays. Otherwise I say we probably lose both.

Both players aren't dependent upon each other...this is ridiculous. Naz isn't going anywhere. He'll I'm just hoping the kid can play one more year of basketball...he isn't leaving to go to an entirely new system..new coach..knows none of the players...and just abandons a place he's been loved at for years..think about it. Every single transfer we've had..every single one..has transferred out of their schools because it wasn't not a good fit for them or things were going bad in their life there end..none of that applies to Naz.

As for Monte..I have no doubt he will tryout for teams etc..and I'm glad he can do that now with new rules..WTS..ill be shocked if he declares beciase I jist don't see him as a 1st rd pg yet...one thing is for sure..we have a former coach who is a HC in NBA and knows drafts..who will tell him exactly what he should do with zero strings attached.

People thought Buddy Heild was an idiot for not jumping last year..

Dude..Hines can wait a few weeks..then ask. Why put all this out there and write articles on it so its center of attention and a distraction right before NCAA...it's just stupid. I get it..but why ask now? Why not ask a month ago? Hell before the season?

I'm leaning towards the notion that Monte will jump ship to the NBA regardless of what happens in the future tournament. As far as Naz leaving too. I'm not buying it!

The better question to ask Monte would be "Would you declare for the draft if you were told there's a good chance you fall to the 2nd round?"

I'm sure he wants to go, but I doubt he'll be told he's a lock for the 1st round. What he does with that information is anyone's guess.

Selfishly I want him to stay. However, I want him to do as well as he can for himself... so I have no idea if staying will improve his NBA stock. Right now I would be more happy to see Niang land in the NBA and find success there.

Why is anyone even bringing up the possibility of Naz leaving? That has to be one of the most idiotic speculations I've heard. The dude is not going to transfer. Some fans need to quit being so ridiculously overdramatic about it.

As for Monte, I would put him at 80/20 on staying/leaving. Shoot, Melo Trimble isn't even projected to be a first round pick this season and he's more highly sought after by scouts at the next level than Monte Morris. Give Monte another year under Prohm where the offense is run entirely through him instead of running it through Niang, Monte has a chance at being a first round pick after his senior season.

That's all he was ever going to get. Staying another year at ISU wouldn't have changed that.
Yeah, wasn't he actually projected higher the year before? You could argue he already hurt his earning potential staying another year as it was. Also, a 2 year, $2.7 million contract is nothing to sneeze at.

He looks awfully engaged on the sidelines. He is on the record saying transferring is out of the question so I'm not at all worried about that. The redshirt is basically guaranteed. The only way I don't see him back is if he can't recover properly and thinks he'll never regain his past performance.

If that were the case, I couldn't blame him.

An 80% Naz is an above average P5 guard. That said, I hope he's 100%.

I agree. Monte will be THE man next year if he comes back. If he could have a Naz-like freshman-> sophomore improvement in shooting and gain some strength he'll be in good shape come draft time. What ever he decides I'll be happy for him.
