The internet in itself is somewhat dangerous. Social media with any random moron creating the content and "real" media then parroting it is really dangerous.

When I was 7 I watched the exorcist. This little girl was possessed by the devil. Her head spun around in circles and I thought it was real. The girl was real and an actress. My mom and dad thought it was fun watching me freak out. Then after I laughed because I was scared. Good stuff. I also went to church the next day with no questions ask. Kids today are afraid of a crack head looking olive oil.

I am starting to agree with Knownothing a LOT more than I ever have before.
It's not a bad lesson to teach kids that almost everything on Youtube is fantasy nonsense.
Even garbage like unboxing videos is a sort of fake reality.
It needs to go hand and hand with every adult knowing that this is a hoax and not real.

I'm teaching my daughter about the old ET video game right now. That should have been a hoax.

My son's school district sent out an email on it yesterday as well. Apparently they didn't get the memo...
I fell for it because it's entirely believable. We used to allow our kid to watch youtube kids. We don't see every minute of every video she watches, so it's entirely believable that some sicko would insert something sadistic or inappropriate in there just for kicks. I'm glad to hear it's a hoax, but like most of them before, it has a sliver of truth built into it, which is why people fall for it.

I agree with you that secretly inserting footage into a YouTube Kids video is entirely believable.
I'm convinced that there is no more secure location in the world, to store sensitive information, than the 8 minute mark of a Peppa Pig video. My eyes glaze over long before I would ever get to that point. You could put alternate footage of the Kennedy assassination in there, and I'd never know it. Beats any encryption that I can think of.
