Shaking my head... This is not real. Parents will eat up anything.

The Tide Pod thing was barely real either.

The internet in itself is somewhat dangerous. Social media with any random moron creating the content and "real" media then parroting it is really dangerous.

I just received a letter from our school district about the Momo challenge resurfacing. They warn about it being an elaborate hoax, but I'm sure I now get the joy of diffusing this stupidity tonight as I'm sure it has already spread like wildfire in my daughter's class.

Slightly amusing is that one of my daughter's friends goes by Momo and the district said they have added the word "momo" to their deny list on searches.

Ames CSD just sent an email out to parents this afternoon.

Cool story bro. Normally I catch this kind of stuff and filter that out. But good for you, you're a genius and keep up the good work, as nothing gets by you geronimo.

So he should have said nothing and let meaningless nonsense hysteria grow?

When did knowledge become offensive?

When I was 7 I watched the exorcist. This little girl was possessed by the devil. Her head spun around in circles and I thought it was real. The girl was real and an actress. My mom and dad thought it was fun watching me freak out. Then after I laughed because I was scared. Good stuff. I also went to church the next day with no questions ask. Kids today are afraid of a crack head looking olive oil.

It's not a bad lesson to teach kids that almost everything on Youtube is fantasy nonsense.

Even garbage like unboxing videos is a sort of fake reality.

It needs to go hand and hand with every adult knowing that this is a hoax and not real.

How do people fall for that crap?

I fell for it because it's entirely believable. We used to allow our kid to watch youtube kids. We don't see every minute of every video she watches, so it's entirely believable that some sicko would insert something sadistic or inappropriate in there just for kicks. I'm glad to hear it's a hoax, but like most of them before, it has a sliver of truth built into it, which is why people fall for it.

I agree with you that secretly inserting footage into a YouTube Kids video is entirely believable.

I'm convinced that there is no more secure location in the world, to store sensitive information, than the 8 minute mark of a Peppa Pig video. My eyes glaze over long before I would ever get to that point. You could put alternate footage of the Kennedy assassination in there, and I'd never know it. Beats any encryption that I can think of.
