MLB: MLB to Start Back Up on July 1?

If you tested positive tomorrow, without any signs or symptoms, would you consider yourself unhealthy?

They must be half-way alright with it, because if the policy is zero tolerance, there is no point in even having the discussion of having a season.

I would consider it really unhealthy to test positive and then put others at risk of getting it.

That's unhealthy.

Not that I sympathize with the owners because they are a bunch of rich a holes too but MLB players are some of the most entitled people IMO. If they actually cared about baseball or fair compensation they would be fighting desperately against the minor league pay. I always come out of the pay disputes in the MLB on the side of the owners and I really hate that but the players make it impossible to side with them.

I agree. It is getting harder and harder to keep my interest in baseball. The players tough stand may end up killing baseball for a lot of fans.

Bust a deal and face the wheel!

They have an agreement and the players should reject this. Nobody wants sports and baseball more than me, but the owners should have put something in the CBA if they wanted this. Everyone agreed to the contract.

The players wouldn't be making millions if they weren't making the owners billions.

Agree, most of these guys are millionaires and you are going to tell them, "Sorry, no premium steakhouse or gorgeous women for months." "Oh yeah, no family or friends either."

You mean like they've been living since mid-March and for the foreseeable future?

Back to the actual playing proposal. Not sure any of it is going to really capture my usual interest. Basically a half season of BS games (only play in your division plus some close by inter-league play) followed by a million game playoff. I am already not a fan of the unbalanced division heavy schedules. NY vs BoSox is no longer a special series with them playing 18 times a year and other teams only 6 or so. Although they are making up for it with 14 freaking teams in the play-offs. SOS is going to be REALLY unbalanced, even more than normal.

About the only stat that translates (and baseball is a game of fun yearly stat milestones) is hitting .300.

Would you have a problem with someone with no symptoms but in the early stages of HIV spreading it all over?

Uh, they would have to be having sex with or bleeding all over people. That's why people go through blood borne pathogen training. There are HIV positive people all over the place. No vaccine by the way. It's been 40 years.

To me it seems like the players have a lot more to lose if they can't find some common ground on the revenue side of this. Both sides are losing out on revenue with no fans in the stands and if I read it right the players basically don't get paid if they aren't playing games either. So doesn't it pretty much boils down to do you want to get paid or not get paid at all for part of this season? All the revenues that would come in from having a normal home game the owners are losing out on and that surely will have a trickle down effect in the future with payroll and facility improvements too I'm sure.

As much as I love baseball the 1 thing that always annoys me is how overpaid baseball players are and how they can still find a way to complain about pay when they play in a league with no salary caps that have allowed them to milk every extra penny they can get in contract negotiations. Try those tactics in leagues with a salary cap like the NFL and NBA and they'll tell you go find another team willing to pay you and still fit under the salary cap in the process if demands get too high because there aren't as many options out there usually as there could be in MLB where basically any team can agree to the demands if they want to.

Really it's just millionaires arguing with billionaires at right now most people probably don't feel sorry for any of them given the current situation where some people are struggling to even pay their bills at the moment.

How are they overpaid?

I have never understood this take. They make what the market warrants. No owner is paying their employees millions of dollars and then losing money. As mentioned before, they get paid millions to make billions.

Also, salary caps are very owner friendly. If they are so great for leagues and parody then explain the Browns or the Hornets.

Piling on, the luxury tax and superstar salaries function like a salary cap already.
It's not like everyone is making $25 million a year. For every guy like that, there are a few making league minimum for owners to keep costs down.

Are we going to panic and shut everything down every time someone tests positive? What if it takes 5-10 years to get a real vaccine? **** that.

Uh, they would have to be having sex with or bleeding all over people. That's why people go through blood borne pathogen training. There are HIV positive people all over the place. No vaccine by the way. It's been 40 years.

Then don't drive cars. They are also fatal to seemingly healthy people.

Flaming, red-hot stupid takes, everybody. Enjoy.

As a reminder:
- COVID-19 is deadlier than the flu
- it is much more infectious than the flu
- it is primarily spread through the air
- We are only ~2 months into this pandemic, so maybe we should all have a little patience with the shutdowns while we learn more about the virus and how to mitigate it. It's possible that a vaccine may not be the only way out, but let's not needlessly endanger people just because we want some entertainment in the meantime.

Not a good effort there. Seriously.

If I know I'm positive for COVID-19 then I'm sure as hell not "healthy". I'm potentially lethal...and really should be held accountable if I don't take steps to mitigate my spread of the disease

The players are also taking on all the risk in this. Its a lot easier to social distance in an owners box than in the dugout, in locker rooms, on buses. The owners and players came to an agreement on salaries earlier with the players agreeing to prorated contracts. Yes the owners might lose money this year, but MLB franchise values continue to increase year over year and when the franchise values go up, that is potential profit for the owner that won't ever end up in the players' pocket. If there are certain teams that are having real liquidity issues, to me that's something the MLB and owners should workout a solution too behind the scenes and do what they can to salvage this season.
