It's Appel or Bryant for the Cubs I bet. Theo/Jed seem to prefer a safer bet at the #2 overall spot. Personally I would be okay with either. If you can get Bryant and the make a huge run on arms with the next 5-8 picks like they did last year with Almora and then 7 straight arms, then that makes a lot of sense. But it's hard to go wrong with Appel, who scouts say has a ceiling of a #1 and then a floor of #3 starter. I've read where some scouts think he's a #3 starter right now with no improvement.
We are talking the Cubs here, right? koffKerryWoodCoreyPattersonkoff...
...and FYI, "best value" is usually illusory, especially in the MLB Draft...always take the best talent available.
I wanted to thank you guys for this thread. My friend John was a Cubs fan, and as a Cards fan, he and I used to banter back and forth good-naturedly, including talking smack (as well as thoughtfully) about our respective teams' drafts and minor league systems. I remember that I was even watching Kerry Wood's 18(?) strikeout game on TV with John when it happened...boy, was that a long time ago!
Of course, as I always teased him, John had a birth defect. Growing up in Gary(IN), he was a lifelong Bears fan as well...
My old friend John passed away suddenly a couple ago. So, subjects like that Cubs' draft have been a little painful for me, and I've avoided looking that direction. But wandering in here made me think of John and his passion for Chicago sports.

So this pitcher that the Twins drafted also has a football scholarship to play QB at aTm...anyone worried the Twins won't be able to sign him because he'll want to play college football instead?
I heard he turned them down and didn't A&M just get a verbal from the #1 QB recruit in the nation the other day? Kyle Allen or something like that? The Twins might be able to sign him, but they are going to have to pony up some dollars and it'll probably go down to the wire.
