That is good stat folks... However, what Iowa State doesn't do night in and night on, unlike UNI for the most part, is the other 3 parts: we would prefer to run (72.6 ppg), we don't play fundamental defense (70.4 ppg, but went up to 74.6 ppg in Big XII play), and we turn it over 13.8 times/game. Until we get that fixed, Big XII victories look pretty bleak.
Oh yeah I agree. I was just saying that if ISU wants to play the "MVC style basketball" that's where we need to improve. Honestly, I think we should lean more towards what Mizzou does and run the "Fastest 40 Minutes of Basketball"/"Controlled Chaos"/"Press to Impress"-style with 3 guards and 2 forwards. It's more competitive in the Big XII and seems to do decently in the tournament.
Once again, tonight's game proves that the style of ball played by the mid-majors like UNI just can't compete with the elites of the BCS conferences....oh wait, never mind.

Keno coached for 1 year at Drake with his Dads players. His style will work anywhere his Dad won at Iowa. I don't think UNI would have had as good a record in the Big 12 but I do think they still would have gotten to the NCAA tournament.
You do realize that this is the first time a team from the MVC has advanced to the Sweet 16 since 1979...right?!? And that was Indiana St. with Larry Bird. So, let's not go crazy with how great the MVC is. In fact, the list of mid majors in the Sweet 16 and beyond is typically very short.
Usually a slow pace which relies on strong fundamental defense, not turning the ball over, and shooting the 3 well.
So although it was a great, great win......I think it stetch to say they could come into the Big Twelve and even finish in the top six. If you think I am mistaken.....ask our current coach.
I will go ahead and disagree with this. Is it that far out there to think that the top team in the Valley would finish in the top half of the Big 12?If UNI plays in the Big 12 they finish way below .500 in conference.
MVC teams that made the sweet 16 in recent history:
2007 - Southern Illinois
2006 - Wichita State
2006 - Bradley
2002 - Southern Illinois
1999 - Missouri State
1995 - Tulsa
1994 - Tulsa
"I gave up on Iowa State Basketball this season when we lost to UNI." "Losing to them is just embarrassing." "Our program is a joke when you're losing to teams like UNI."
Hope all of these people feel a little bit better about losing to UNI when on 'any given day' anybody can beat anybody. That's what basketball is all about.
Congrats to UNI!
Why should we ever feel good about losing to UNI?
Why should we ever feel good about losing to UNI?
Because for nearly 5 years now, UNI has been a better team and program, and had much more success.
10 years is a stretch. If you would have said 5, I would have agreed.Because for nearly 10 years now, UNI has been a better team and program, and had much more success.
