Much different when all your freshmen have to contribute at a fairly high level vs just hoping that two or three will play some kind of role.

Or even just zero or one.

We have seven returners/transfers...

Wigginton
Weiler-Babb
Shayok
Talley
Jacobson
Lard
Young

...who you figure are in the rotation/Big 12 quality.

That is theoretically all you need. I would doubt it, but that could be the rotation.

Our freshman are competing to extend the rotation to eight or displace one of the above.

That is way better than last year where two (and even three at the end of the year) of them had to step in and be Big 12 starters. That is not an easy task.

Iowa finally paying up for that player to be named later in the Haluska trade?

Better late than never and hopefully with some interest.

Not that I think it is happening or anything here, but Cook would thrive in a more open system with more competent guards/wings around him.

He strikes me as that Nader, Burton, and THT archetype that Prohm seems to love.

I admit he pairs well with Bohannon, though. I know we like to make fun of him and he sucks at defense, but dang the kid can shoot. Anybody could use that.

It all begins and ends with Tyler Harris. That seems pretty well cemented by now.

It kind of seems like he's been a silent commit, just waiting for a spot to open. Considering how good of a player Tyler is and how he hasn't seemed really active in the recent recruiting cycles, but still friends with all of the incoming Illinois kids.

From what I’ve seen watching Iowa this year, I don’t remember Cook playing anything like Nader, Burton, and THT.

I don't think he has even close to comparable handling ability. He seems like a low post or bust kind of player. Not sure if that's a poor development situation or not. He doesn't shoot it like those guys are capable of either.

I've heard d-bag hawk players knocking Cooks lack of shooting and ball handling ability a lot lately. Part of the "we don't need him anyway" campaign if he does leave.

It depends on if we have further losses.

If everyone else stays, a shooter of some fashion would be nice for next year. Efficient guard play was our biggest problem this past year, so anything we can do to improve that

If Harris is cool with essentially spending a year learning and being mentored by Nick and Lindell, it'd be perfect.

Then 2019 him and Tyrese would tear it up as our main PG/SG combo.

You forgot Lewis on your list. I know he didn't get a lot of time, but I could see his career parallel Matt Thomas's in terms of development. I think he puts in the work and ends up being a fan favorite before he leaves ISU.

For the incoming freshmen, THT seems the most likely to contribute meaningful minutes next year, but Griffin has the possibility to surprise people. If nothing else, practices are going to be worlds better than they were this year in terms of in-game scenarios.
