Matt Campbell to Penn State??

Hate to post this because my thoughts usually don’t mess with the outcome. But at this point CMC has accumulated more money than he could ever hope to spend. His future earnings are likely more about giving back to the causes he wants. Knowing he can be the coach here as long as he chooses definitely has value. Penn St isn’t a picnic. Unless the next coach can win their share v. The Buckeyes they won’t be long term.

Opposite of that he has a better shot at a Natty. But the leash will always be shorter.

If he did travel there to interview and ended up accepting the job, he couldn't exactly teleport back to campus to inform his players, so he would have had to trust the Penn State people not to blabber it everywhere for the next 8 hours or so, as I guarantee that he'd want to tell them himself. Hopefully that pisses him off and he changes his mind (insert optimistic emoji rating here)
The Athletic is stating the Penn State AD was in Ames yesterday and met with Cambell and today they are finalizing the deal. What the all means, is up in the air, I suppose Campbell could get cold feet and decide to stay, but it sounds like he is the next PSU coach.

I'm going to guess he left his job because the school or AD wouldn't buy in to the current state of big time college athletics.

I could sympathize with the school if they weren’t already subject to a systematic downgrading on the academic side too. If we can’t maintain ISU’s academic standing as a state priority vs when I attended 25 years ago at least that same public still supports sports.

I wish MC would have stayed here forever but he's not Jesus Christ. There are other coaches that are capable. We just need to find one that is the right fit.
That dude flamed out spectacularly after what, 2-3 years tops?

Campbell was at ISU a decade!

It was at his house not in PA.

If you're negotiating a $5 million a year contract with a coach who knows he could get $8 million on the open market, you make some concessions
When we negotiated that contract, it was after most of the coaching searches was over though I think.

Blatently obvious we cant keep up with the big boys, hell not even those in the B12 anymore. Seems like we are falling back to the poors at the bottom.

And so many said this era of big money and NIL is why we are in our best era. Seems it also is what is going to put us right back at the bottom too.

I'm bummed but hard to blame CMC, when he was hired I was hoping for 5 or 6 years and he went well beyond that. My thoughts now are with the players and the recruiting class and what we keep or lose.

I wonder if Rocco follows him to give him a senior QB for his first year?

What the **** is wrong with you?
Nothing. Good health, good life and never a better time to be a Cyclone fan.

Football 8-4, Wrestling beat the Hawks, Volleyball made NCAA's, XC men finished 3rd, women in top 10 AND men's and women's hoop teams are UNDEFEATED.

And Jamie Pollard will hire a great FB coach

Thanks for asking. I feel your empathy.

I think it was probably flirting with the Gopher job that bugged a lot more people. A guy that wasn't sniffing a mid-major head coaching gig and Pollard takes a chance on him. Fred got every raise and extension he asked for, and still was apparently interested in the Gopher job. Then maybe calling the Husker gig his 'dream job' rubbed people the wrong way.

Fred did an awesome job coaching here, was a great player. I absolutely don't blame him at all for getting out of Ames and going to the NBA. While I thought Bulls job was destined to be a clunker due to personnel and Foreman/Pax

I see why people have a little bit of negativity, but I think eventually that should fade away. It would be a hell of a lot easier to root for him if he was at Wake Forest or something.

As for Campbell, not sure how someone can be pissed at him. But it's going to be tough. I want Pedo St to lose every game into perpetuity for that garbage fanbase trying to rationalize Paterno's failures. They deserve to have their program in the dumps forever. F them.
I think a lot of it too is Nebraska has stabbed Iowa State in the back (and when Fred went there we were even closer to that happening)
Or if it was a premium post, just don’t say anything
But then how would we know that they have super secret info

As a millionaire I have no empathy for people like you;):p

Just to be clear, IMO Campbell is not moving because of money. Like I said, people tend to switch jobs for personal growth. Money can be one of those reasons.

But more likely, after 10 years he might be looking for a new challenge. The longest I was with a single employer was just under 10 years and in that span different jobs.
And that's all fine. He and his family already have financial security. It's his right, but wanting more money doesn't jibe with his message.
