Matt Campbell to Penn State??

Amazing how much undeserved negativity Hoiberg gets. He grew up in Ames, went to ISU as a player, coached ISU, and got us out of many years of sucking. Nicknamed him after the town. All this negativity because he went to a nearby college, a college in another conference and a college we rarely cross paths with on the recruiting trail.
I think it was probably flirting with the Gopher job that bugged a lot more people. A guy that wasn't sniffing a mid-major head coaching gig and Pollard takes a chance on him. Fred got every raise and extension he asked for, and still was apparently interested in the Gopher job. Then maybe calling the Husker gig his 'dream job' rubbed people the wrong way.

Fred did an awesome job coaching here, was a great player. I absolutely don't blame him at all for getting out of Ames and going to the NBA. While I thought Bulls job was destined to be a clunker due to personnel and Foreman/Pax

I see why people have a little bit of negativity, but I think eventually that should fade away. It would be a hell of a lot easier to root for him if he was at Wake Forest or something.

As for Campbell, not sure how someone can be pissed at him. But it's going to be tough. I want Pedo St to lose every game into perpetuity for that garbage fanbase trying to rationalize Paterno's failures. They deserve to have their program in the dumps forever. F them.

Financial security? Good grief. I have no empathy for millionaires.
As a millionaire I have no empathy for people like you;):p

Just to be clear, IMO Campbell is not moving because of money. Like I said, people tend to switch jobs for personal growth. Money can be one of those reasons.

But more likely, after 10 years he might be looking for a new challenge. The longest I was with a single employer was just under 10 years and in that span different jobs.

What was said?
I haven't seen what is being referenced, but Blum and Williams have been on record multiple times claiming that they believe Campbell and Otz will be in Ames as long as they feel they can compete here at the highest level. My assumption is that Blum essentially said the AD is not providing the resources for that.

We're now back to fully being a basketball school.

Do we stop construction on CyTown?
I hate it, but I bet a more basketball focus is something Pollard must think about. Getting the right guy this time is more important than ever.

Had to be a primo thing. You know how CF is about that stuff filtering over to us poors. Just guessing, since BB has mentioned it before, they couldn't get JP to commit to make a push to the BoR and legislature to fund player salaries.

Maybe that's where all the blaming of the fan base came from this morning.

Because if that's the case, given how CF functions as an extension of the athletic department, we can assume that is reflective of the attitude in Ames toward ISU fans. In which case it may be time to re-evaluate relationships with both entities.

Wonder if BYU being on the outside looking in of the playoff is part of it. They have a better resume then several teams.

Genuinely how close is he with the team considering he has been away for 2 years?

I’m also a bit concerned He has been in the NFL game and been out of the recruiting sphere for a time. He may be more of a pro coach in his future. I worry with his age I don’t know what kind of staff he could create with his connections. We have to assume Campbell will take most of the staff.

don't let him coach our bowl game
I doubt he would. I think once it's finalized he'll be headed to Happy Valley to start work there.

Franklin was elite at winning every “should win” game and dismal at beating Ohio State, Michigan and now Oregon.

Matt would get them some of those wins they’ve totally lacked but probably also more likely to lose to Maryland than Franklin’s teams ever were.

So Campbell will be perfect to keep that tradition going.

Keep in mind two of the last three ISU coaches who left voluntarily for another coaching job ended up winning a natty.

Yeah that was a wild little side quest wasn't it
