We have been good enough we should be able to land a top assistant. Go after Tim Fuller. He was listed a top 10 assistant under 40 and can recruit. Not to mention he would most likely bring Johnathan Williams III. Get some new blood.

TJ was arguably the best recruiting assistant we've had in past 15 years, not close. Guy can recruit and people would be nuts not to want him back. Georges has one year left, deal with it. If we don't get TJ we need to get someone who can coach defense and scout defensively well along with being a solid recruiter.

Sounds like Fred needs a whole new staff.

Assistant coach/recruiter prospects are far outside my range of expertise, so I can speculate with no risk: Dedric Willoughby.

Coach/recruiter prospects are also way beyond my limited knowledge, but I like your speculation. I've always had a soft spot for Dedric Willoughby: among other positives, he was a lights-out shooter, always seemed to give 100%, and has tournament experience.

I trust that CFH will hire the best available person; however, I would love to see some other former Cyclones get a chance to coach at their alma mater.

In all honesty, Travis Ford would be a homerun assistant and he may look at the position. Though I seriously doubt he stays more than 1 or 2 years until taking a power 5 HC job again.

In all seriousness, that would be a great get.

He'll get players and Fred has to get across to Travis that in this system we don't play midgets 30 minutes a game at 2 guard.

The DM register has a list of possible canidates (all being discussed here) and quotes from Hoiberg. I'm a little suprised CFH naming actual canidates to the press. He must have a good idea who he wants and assurances they have intrest in coming.

(Speculation on my part is that TJ would be the favorite depending on how his interview goes this weekend.)

Hoiberg said he hoped to have a replacement in place shortly. He will have heart surgery this month to replace a valve. Abdelmassih was the Cyclones' primary recruiter at least the past two seasons.

"I'll look at the best possible candidate," Hoiberg said. "I'll look at someone that can recruit at a high level, and someone with knowledge on the floor."
Hoiberg said that even could include former assistants like T.J. Otzelberger, now an assistant at Washington, and Doc Sadler, the head coach at Southern Mississippi.
"We'll see how that plays out in the next couple days." "Hope to have it done in a couple of weeks ... in as short a time frame as possible," Hoiberg said.

Personally, I'd like to see Grayer get a shot at the gig. He might be the best player in school history and has ties to a top-10 recruit that we are already in on.

That said, I trust Fred. I have no inside knowledge and have really just been following things CW, Travis and a couple posters here that I trust. To me it seems likely Fred already has the plan in place. If I had to guess what that plan is, it would look something like:

Plan A: TJ doesn't get/turns down the head coaching jobs he's interviewing for and we hire him
Plan B: TJ gets a head coaching job and we hire Barret Peery.

So it will be TJO if he doesn't get a head coaching job or it will be Doc if he chooses to leave Southern Miss thanks to the sanctions they may have coming to them...

Who knows? I do know that Jamie has kept in contact with him and that makes me wonder if he is on the short list once Fred leaves. Maybe Fred is interested in hiring his replacement?

Fred's replacement is already in Ames.. a young lad named Jack. He just has to go to college and finish his pro career first.

Honest question - was Doc that good a recruiter?
