And it's crazy, because I had almost no idea who Captain Marvel really was before she was first rumored to be part of the MCU.

I knew Rogue absorbed Carol Danvers' powers. That's basically it.

Yep. I think that was the whole point. She'd been shackled and indoctrinated into a Kree army that she never actually understood in the end. Then you get the actual Captain Marvel for the last 15 minutes.
I feel like the first Captain Marvel movie should have been released right after the original Avengers. Then a sequel in phase 2 or 3, maybe connecting her to the GotG. Then the End Game showdown that we loved but deserved more of.

I go back and forth on how to fit more movies in without burning out the audience before Endgame, but at least a cameo or something in the Guardians movies could have gone a ways.

Yeah, it wasn't perfect, but it's also a part of who the character was supposed to be in that movie. At least until she fully embraced her powers and figured out who she was really meant to be. In the end it was just a character introduction. We didn't even get to see any real development. If you have a sequel set during the middle of phase 3 you'd see real character development. You'd have her being more peoples favorite character and her improvement in Endgame that much more significant. I thought she was better in Endgame too BTW.

In the end I think it was partly a missed opportunity for both Captain Marvel AND Black Widow to have their movies seem like afterthoughts.

I definitely respect those thoughts for sure and am with you for most of it. I'm hopeful for improvement as well. That character has been a tough one across the board for a variety of reasons, as it has become a reflection of what our country has come to, which is everyone navigating to the extremes on everything, or at least the loudest voices. It seems like the loudest voices are people either hating on Larsen and the movie (many before it even came out) OR, the opposite, which are the people saying that anybody who didn't like Captain Marvel or Brie Larson in the role is automatically a misogynist. Its drives me nuts, and like everything, there is a middle ground. That middle ground used to be okay to live in 5 years ago, but seems impossible to live in anymore. I just didn't love either the movie or Brie Larson in the part and totally respect those who did. It is what it is and its all a subjective opinion. I'm not going to pretend I loved it either. That doesn't mean I have ill will towards anyone for that matter either and I'm always one to hope for everything to improve. I always want to like everything, and am disappointed every time I don't. If anything, I get jealous of people who like stuff that I don't, because I want to like everything. Therefore, I'm actually jealous of you.

Yeah, wouldn't even need to have a full sequel, though it would have been nice.

Release Captain Marvel in Phase 1 or 2, then have her involved in GotG2 or something.
We're told she's been taking care of the rest of the galaxy for what, 30 years between 1995 and and End Game?

There are so many factors that contributed to where everyone is at with Captain Marvel. I don't blame you for anything. Marvel and in some cases toxic fandom has most of the blame. Brie has some as well.
I don't think you're a misogynist for not loving Captain Marvel, if that makes you feel better. I think those kind of views hurt the movie, and Marvel didn't do it any favors either.

I'm still waiting on some What If....? E2 opinions. Surprised nobody has had a chance to watch it. Come on people!!! I'd start to swear you all have jobs or something???? Haha. Surely we've got someone out there to play into our nerd stereotype of a grown man living with his mom playing video games all day right???

I liked it. T'Challa brings a whole new take on Star Lord.

It was a fun episode. It's hard to say much without spoiling, but there were a lot of different characters in this one with some interesting and sometimes funny changes.

I saw the list of all the characters who returned to voice their characters in this one, which was both most all the characters, and just a lot of characters. There were many I didn't expect. I guess me just looking at the list was slightly spoilery, but I could care less when it comes to this series. Its not like I take this series as seriously as all the other MCU stuff.

Rigid is Captain Marvel in a nutshell. Larson was excellent at protraying a really difficult character to portray due to her emotional distance/damage.

Keeping it really real, Captain Marvel kind of sucks as a character in general IMO. Brie Larson is a great actor but you can only do what's on the page.

She's had some times where she was a pretty good or really good character, and a lot of times like you're describing.
I can't imagine the decades of being the character for writers to dump on have helped at all.

Beings how Keaton was completely confused when the Morbius filmmakers were talking to him about his character in the movie and the logic of their universe leads further credence to the thought that The Vulture in Morbius is a different multiverse version of the character. Only time will exactly tell. Combine these confusing multiverse comments with his confusing multiverse comments about the Batman role (posted in the DCEU forum), it sounds like the infamous non-comic book fan Keaton is just straight up confused all over. He doesn't seem to know up from down.

Haven't had the chance to watch the new episode yet. Is it it's own story or a basic retelling of Guardians 1 but slightly different? The first episode was essentially, "What if we decided to go a slightly different direction plot-wise with TFA, but this time Agent Carter gets the super serum and also we condense it all into 20 minutes?" It just seems unnecessary. Concepts like that need at least a miniseries to be worth it. Four 30-45 minute episodes telling the story of a post war/50's era Avengers with Captain Carter, Iron Steve, Stark ,a few commandoes and maybe Thor sounds interesting to explore. Abbreviated TFA does not.

Oh, it's a new direction.

So What If is basically just Rick and Morty sitting around watching inter-demensional cable?

I don’t get at all how stories of the multi-verse advance the plot. Basically feels like cheap fan service to comic readers. Similar to Black Widow in that none of this really matters

I finally finished the partial great re-watch of the MCU, watching in the time chronological order. Starting with CA 1st Avenger then Peggy Carter then Agents of Shield interspersed with the MCU movies, some of which I hadn't yet seen. Captain Marvel fit a lot better watching this way. I thought Brie Larson did a great job. I guess I will just have to do it again in the future putting Black Widow in the proper place.

I didn't do any of the Netflix or other series just those I mentioned. It was a good time.

I hope in the future that the movies stay in order.

Far less a retelling and goes more into the potential for the What If...? series as a whole.

I liked this one a lot better. Seemed like the voice actors had a lot of fun with it, and I'm amazed at how many actually reprised their role from the movies!

The only thing I didn't really like:

T'Challa adopting the Star Lord name, since in the movie's it's established that Peter Quill calls himself Star Lord as an homage to his deceased mother who uses Star Lord as an endearing name for him as a kid. Where else would that name come from?

Also, there wasn't much of an explanation as to where the timeline actually diverged, unless it's truly because in the main MCU branch, the Ravagers just become comically inept and fly to AFRICA instead of NORTH AMERICA trying to find Peter Quill.

I'm probably taking it all too seriously though. Very enjoyable episode, I thought it was better than episode 1 for sure.
