Super underrated part of Marvel. The costumes are at least cool. Some are fantastic. DC and specifically Fox's X-Men series are VERY hit and miss in costuming.

Overall, DC has been somewhat inconsistent over the years, but I'd argue the DCEU costumes rival even the MCU ones on average. I absolutely LOVE pretty much all the DCEU costumes. Both movie universes do pretty darn good though and are much improved from their predecessors. As for Fox X-Men, do those even count when they don't even really wear costumes most of the time??

Florence Pugh is the reason I liked it so much. Perfectly cast.

Yup, she steals the show.

I liked it, but it’s not a top tier MCU movie. I think Winter Soldier is the correct comparison. My biggest complaint is that it doesn’t really advance the timeline. It takes us back to 2016 and even before the post credit scene in Civil War. And BW’s post credit scene is the only thing that sets up the next movie/show, which is disappointing

I enjoyed the movie a lot, but yeah it ideally should have come out before IW.

Also, the more I think about it, the more I don't like the after credits scene. I hate plotlines that only exist because one character is missing some key piece of information, and I worry they'll do that with Yelena. I hope that doesnt drag on too long

Its plot though isn't necessarily what really makes this film good anyway, but rather its characters and their interplay with one another. The film really leans into its characters in a make or break way, and I'll gladly say they made it. Props to them, and that goes for pretty much everyone, whether that be Natasha, The Red Guardian, Yelena, or Molina. There is some good twists in there too.

This is good but its also bad. Like.. i love that play between them, but now we won't get a good chunk of that ever again because, barring some crazy twist or multiverse magic, Natasha is gone.

Overall, this movie is out of place. It's not bad, and it's actually really enjoyable for long stretches. But it's so self-contained that it really needed to be released years ago to really fit. The best possible purpose it could serve here is as a eulogy for Natasha, and they trampled over nearly every emotional beat with humor (the post-credit scene actually pissed me off in that regard). Some of that humor hit for me, but a big chunk of it should have been left on the editing room floor to let those emotional moments breathe.

Over a decade to finally get a solo film for the main female hero in the MCU, and it really only served to set up her replacement. That's really disappointing, IMO. Natasha's character deserved better than what it received over the last 10 years, and this film didn't break the trend.

I agree but also it sounds like this was certainly better than nothing.

That’s what I was kind of afraid of going in,
feeling like this movie was kind of a (well-deserved) obligation going in, but I thought it was really well done. The musical intro set to a cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit was exceptionally well done and gave me chills. I also loved the chemistry between Natasha and her family.

I think this one is going to stand the test of time… the fact that it really doesn’t advance any of the overall MCU plot yet still maintains its quality is a testament to how well it was done.

I thought it was good. Good action, good storyline. Really liked the Red Defender character. Maybe it was a little out of place and self-contained. The thing that I took away from it most was how weird it was going to a big summer movie at the theater again.

Saw it last night. Not quite sure what to think of it yet to be honest. I thought the characters played VERY well off of each other, and it was a fun movie, but I couldn’t help thinking something was missing. Can’t put my finger on it though.

I went yesterday at noon, first in theatre movie in like 15 months.

I'm not feeling the greatest so maybe being off kilter affected my overall judgement but I couldn't get a good read on it.

Definitely need a repeat viewing.

My big tub of buttered popcorn game was still flawless.

I was pleasantly surprised by Black Widow. While it certainly had flaws I think it was one of the better origin stories, although it really wasn't an origin story. I think this is the best of the Phase 4 installments (Disney+ series included) and I'm excited to see some of those characters again in the future. It felt more like a Jason Bourne movie than an MCU-installment, which I really enjoyed. This is the type of movie that will have a lot of replay-value on those lazy-Sunday afternoons.

From a consumer perspective I dropped the $30 for Premier Access on Disney+ and don't have any regrets. My wife and I watched it on Saturday night. I was able to watch with subtitles (which we have to have on for most shows/movies) and we were able to pause it so I could put my 8mo old to sleep in the middle of our first viewing. I started re-watching it again yesterday. There's no doubt that I would have enjoyed seeing this in theaters, but watching these movies in a timely manner is critical to avoid spoilers. I know some aren't fans of hybrid theatrical/VOD releases, but Premier Access allowed my wife and I to watch from the comfort of our home, which saved $ on hiring a sitter and paying concession prices at a movie theater, and we can re-watch the movie for a few more months. I hope Disney continues to offer Premier Access for their films moving forward.

I also watch everything with subtitles. It is the way to go for not missing anything.

I paid $4 for the ticket bringing the total tab to $18, lol.

I haven't done Premier Access (I live alone, so it's actually cheaper for me to see it in theater), but I probably will for this one just so I don't have to go back to the theater to rewatch it. I still love the theater experience (and I smuggle in all my concessions besides fountain drinks and popcorn, anyway), especially when I can go to one of the Marcus theaters with the dream lounger seating.
