It's weird, I enjoy the two movies a lot without really liking the character. Probably because I was never a huge fan growing up and had 100s of other Marvel comics. It was pretty much the norm in the 80s and 90s to ignore Captain America and the Avengers in favor of X-Men, Punisher, and Spider-Man. I was a pretty big outlier in the fact that I read and collected Iron Man in the early 90s. Hulk was a little more popular than Iron Man/Cap but still not not on the level of those others.

I started reading comics in the early 90s and Marvel was all X-Men and Spider-Man for me. I mean I don't think I ever purchased or read a single comic about any MCU characters, and especially not Cap. Cap was a boring character at that time, probably why I like him so much now.

I was talking to a buddy last night about Superhero TV special effects and how they are improving, yet still have a pretty big gap to fill with the movies in general. When it comes to visuals, I know I tend to be very picky, especially when compared to sound, which I'm MUCH less picky, although I am a music score junkie. With the Superhero TV special effects, the series I've been most critical of have actually been the Marvel Netflix series, where I think Marvel tends to go way too much on the cheap and even avoid doing certain things just to keep the budget at a bare bones. The perfect example would be the Iron Fist series where they went out of their way to not show the dragon but also Danny Rand's Iron Fist. I mean, the show is called Iron Fist, you know, people actually come to see an Iron Fist. I'd say Hulu's Marvels Runaways fell into many of the same traps with how limited they kept the showing of the kids powers as well as how little and in what ways they showed the dinosaur. I'd also say the Netflix and maybe the Hulu shows arguably get the most viewers of all the Netflix shows, yet they operate on the lowest budgets and have the worst special effects. Shoot, all the DC CW shows are much better with their special effects than Marvel's streaming shows.

With all that said, believe it or not, I'd say the best special effects winners actually are the Marvel big network shows, which is crazy since those shows tend to struggle on viewers anymore and have so many more episodes to spread their budget in between. In fact, if I had to rank all the shows, the following are my top 5 superhero show special effects rankings.

1. Agents of Shield
2. The Gifted
3. Krypton
4. Legion (for what little effects they have done)
5. The Flash

Agents of Shield is no joke, especially with its later seasons. Their effects are great and near movie level. What they did with Ghost Rider was spectacular and they are not afraid to use special effects with character's powers either. Lastly, with all the CW shows, I don't really want to criticize them ever since I think they do pretty darn good with their viewership/budget balance. Marvel on the other hand, not so much.

Chris Pratt just posted a Guardians cast joint response finally to all this stuff with James Gunn. Overall, I think it is a pretty fair response to the circumstances and its good to see their unity with it. Truthfully, with what some of what the cast had said so far on the more extreme side of things, its good to see them likely think about things a little more and soften their stance a bit.

There is some truth to what you are saying for sure, however, there are other positives to come out of it too, especially if you are a Disney, Marvel, or Star Wars fan. For instance, what this move does for Disney is finally give them enough content in my mind to become a fully legitimate contender to Netflix with their upcoming streaming service. Prior to this, it definitely would have been a bit more difficult. Then, with that streaming service, I'm super excited for a bunch of new streaming service content like a Star Wars TV sow and other Marvel TV shows that I doubt would have happened if they didn't have their own streaming service. Therefore, for me, there is a lot more to love by way of content production that just X-Men and Fantastic Four. However, I'm a Disney fan and a Disney shill who will be stoked to get the streaming service. What it sucks most for are all those people more on the fence.

Its also worth mentioning that Disney now finally also gets distribution rights back to A New Hope, which is pretty big for a few different things many Star Wars fans have been waiting to see.
 
More directly marvel related, i finally went and binged through everything of Cloak and Dagger that has come out so far this weekend. This series really exceeded my expectations.

According to this article, apparently there is a growing feeling out there that Gunn might be reinstated. Currently, Bob Iger is out on vacation after closing the Fox-Disney deal so there likely won't be any type of decision made until at least he gets back. While some are reporting this almost as fact, I'd still take it with a grain of salt for now at least. Truthfully, I'd still guess his chances of getting rehired would be less than 40%, but what do I know?

Its worth noting that elsewhere I've heard rumors that there is more to this firing that just what meets the eye. The rumors are that Gunn has also been fairly difficult to deal with for Disney in the making of Guardians 3. Some have said he has gotten a bit too high on himself while others say that Gunn is a bit angry for Disney stepping in too much for Guardians 2 and he doesn't want that to happen again in Guardians 3. Again, those are just rumors that somebody at Collider mentioned.

Looks like Netflix has cut back the number of episodes for Iron Fist Season 2 from 13 to 10. Beings how I, along with many others out there have been hammering for this for a while now, there is no doubt I'm happy about this move. In the end, I think 10 episodes could be about the perfect amount on average to see more streamlined stories with more action and less filler. Truthfully, looking back at all the series, I'd argue only probably Daredevil Season 1 and The Punisher Season 1 balanced the full 13 episodes really well. The rest of them struggled at some point or another.
 


Not necessarily MCU related for now, but Sony just released another Venom trailer for anyone interested. Personally, I'm going to abstain for now just so I don't get spoiled too much.

If the actors were really serious about him getting reinstated it just say that they won't do the movie unless he's running it. If there is anything that Disney can't resist it's the almighty dollar.

It was a very carefully worded statement they put out. They managed to express their support for Gunn without putting their own butts (and giant paychecks) on the line. They'll all presumably return for GotG 3 regardless of who directs it. Disney is in a similar position as the NFL is with the anthem controversy now. If they bring Gunn back, someone's gonna be pissed. If they stand by the firing, someone else is going to be pissed. They backed themselves into a corner when they made a knee jerk reaction to fire him. No good way out now.

In the end, I think the actors worded it pretty well from the aspect that they came out in support of James Gunn as a person, but I didn't take it at all as an ultimatum that backs them into a corner. In the end, these actors need to be smart and know who they are up against. No matter how important they feel they are, in the end, Disney is bigger and stronger. With the new Fox purchase, the combined Disney/Fox company owned 35% of the box office last year and 50% of the box office so far this year. So, if you want to start a war with Disney, good luck. You have just decided to cut your job prospects in half, and I'd say there is only a couple of those cast members that could afford to do that.
