Also not mentioned is that new TVA statue at the end is a statue of Kang in his suit from the comics. Therefore, that statue is what confirms Sylvie's actions did in fact bring forth Kang in at least whatever new timeline Loki ends up in.

One timeline Loki ended up in was the car commercial timeline.

He Who Remains is a good-variant version of Kang the Conqueror, a mainline Avengers threat from the comics. What he’s been doing with the “sacred” timeline is pruning all individuals and resetting events that eventually towards the timelines where one of his evil variants surfaces takes power and starts mucking with the multiverse.

Sylvie killing He Who Remains is an act of revenge on her part, but she unknowingly kills the only thing keeping the rest of the Kang variants at bay, which is why we see a different TVA in the post credits.

However He Who Remains will return as the victor in the upcoming multiversal war vs the other Kangs by weaponizing Alioth to remain at the citadel at the end of time again, right back where he was.

Wut….

Short version: The end scene where Kang (He Who Remains) is at the citadel will keep repeating since various timelines will keep repeating the same scenarios.

IMO, the multiverse will make everything confusing for most fans that just want to be entertained. Marvel needs to tread carefully in their movies to avoid catering to their comic fans too much.

The multiverse concept is akin to flipping over and Etch-A-Sketch and shaking it. There are no true consequences when someone can just go back and re-do everything.

I hope Feige can keep telling a good story without relying on the easy button he just installed for the writers.

I think what is difficult is that these different timelines/storylines start then the series or movie ends and you have to wait till the next bit of content is released. If you could watch them all together, I think you could piece together the storyline more easily

Honestly, though, I think it's a gamble worth taking. It's the easiest way to introduce Mutants at some point in the future, which we all know is going to happen, and does open things up for some fun/creative storytelling. Maybe the multiverse stuff swallows itself whole, but I think they might have been able to see the end of the line in the distance without it, and they want to keep this cash cow going for as long as possible.

Regarding "What If":

* The episodes are officially MCU cannon, according to AC Bradley who is the head writer of the series:
"The events of What If...? are canon. It's part of the MCU multiverse. The multiverse is here. It is real, and it is absolutely fantastic, people."

* Captain Britain (Peggy Carter) will appear in every season of the series

* A second season has already been greenlit and Haley Atwell will return to voice Captain Britain

* A "What If" episode was turned down at a pitch meeting because it was already a substantial part of GotG 3:
"I'm going to stay away from that question," Bradley says when IGN asked for more details on the Watchers. The reasoning is because Bradley says they spent three days on a storyline tackling the character then, "walked [executive producer] Brad Winderbaum through all my hard work only to find out I accidentally pitched the back half of [Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3]."

* Confirmed actors that will return to voice their characters:

  • Hayley Atwell (Agent Peggy Carter)
  • Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes)
  • Chris Hemsworth (Thor)
  • Jeff Goldblum (Grandmaster)
  • Tom Hiddleston (Loki)
  • Natalie Portman (Jane Foster)
  • Paul Rudd (Ant-Man)
  • Josh Brolin (Thanos)
  • Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury)
  • Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk)
  • Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark
  • and Chadwick Boseman in his final appearance as T'Challa

Anybody seen What if...? yet?????? If so, curious people's thoughts.

Watched it around noon. I liked it.
Very dramatic start. Plenty of easter eggs. Plenty of questions left open as well.

For people who liked What If comics, it's just like those. They tended to tell long-arc stories in a one-shot format, so there will be a spot or two that leave you wanting more, but not in a way that takes away from the story they're telling.

I think if you go in knowing what to expect, you’ll forgive it’s pacing, which is WAY off. But I appreciate it for what it is, which is a fun diversion and quick primer of what the multiverse MCU will address in the very near future.

First episode is ok. Much more interested in Dr. Strange and the Watcher than whatever the same characters do to stop hydra again… and again…. And again…

So are these just one off episode stories or are they going to build off each other to culminate in a similar but different Endgame?

It was confirmed that Peggy Carter and voice actress Hayley Atwell will return in S2 and will continue to appear in future seasons.

The ending of this episode with Nick Fury seemed to be the foundation for a new modern-day Avengers team. My guess is we'll see a big team up event as the last episode of Season 1

I loved What If growing up. I enjoyed the episode yesterday. I have to admit the Kang drop at the end of Loki just makes me want more Kang.
