I know this is kind of a "nerd alert" question, but has anyone been to San Diego Comic-Con, or even any other Comic-Cons for that matter? I ask this because I know the big San Diego one is coming up soon. If so, what are your thoughts? Did you enjoy it?

Personally, I've never been to any of them. It isn't that I wouldn't like them or that I don't follow what comes out of them, I just can't say that I'm motivated enough to actually go to one. Not sure I'm exactly at that point yet at least.

Finally finished up Agents of Shield: Season 3 (again, I refuse to watch ANY TV live), so I figured I'd post my spoiler-free review. In a nutshell, eh, it was alright I guess. Talk about an up and down season, similar to Season 1 where I decently enjoyed certain sets of episodes while really disliked other sets. Overall, the show continues to lack certain things like a tonal consistency to the movies (too cheesy and stupid at times - those primitives were AWFUL), enough decent characters (only really love Coulson, Fitz and Simmons), a good crossover/integration to the movie universe (crossovers are minimal, forced, and a one-way street), decent action (too many contrived stupid fistfights - I'm looking at you May - use guns at times you idiots!!!), and a decent story line. I will say that AOS in general does do a decent job of throwing in some good twists, but don't all shows? Also, the twists don't seem to buoy the marginal story lines enough overall either. I also don't necessarily love that they are using the Inhumans right now, simply because I don't think they are doing a very good job of it. If they were kicking butt and taking names, sure, whatever, but they aren't. In the meantime, they are mucking things up for introducing the Inhumans into the movies where I think they could have done a better job of it. We'll see on that front. In comparing Seasons, Season 1 was the season of a terrible start, but a decent ending. Season 2 was the best season where they weeded out some of the cheese and contained some decent storytelling, whereas Season 3 was just up and down all across the board with many of their previous issues resurfacing, and probably ends up somewhere close to Season 1. However, I'll rank it lower than Season 1 simply because they should know better by now.

In the end, my guess is Season 4 will be the last season, and I'm probably okay with that. The show is following a lot of the same trends that Arrow did in its Season 3 as well, which is another show I'm okay with just calling it quits on. I used to love Arrow and its Season 2 was its best season as well. In the end, all of these studios only have so many resources, and with the way these shows are going, I'm okay with them shifting those resources elsewhere where they can start anew and fix many of their mistakes with new material. When comparing what Marvel TV is doing on their ABC side of things (AOS and Agent Carter), it pales in comparison to what they are doing on the Netflix side of things. I also just wish both the movies and TV side could work out their differences to the point where this TV/Film shared universe model actually works the way it should with much more and much better crossovers. I know that part might be wishful thinking. Lastly, if you are interested, I'll update my MCU rankings here soon and post with AOS: Season 2 included. Based on my review, you could probably guess approximately where it will land.

After posting my review of Agents of Shield: Season 3, I said I'd update my full MCU rankings. Again, based on my review, you could probably guess where Season 3 would fall.

  1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier – Thought this movie had the best drama and best writing and story line of all the movies. Its action sequences were probably only second to Civil War as well.
  2. Marvel’s The Avengers – Iconic way to pull everything together with the best villain in the MCU. The final battle was so epic and unlike anything we had ever seen up until that point.
  3. Captain America: Civil War - Most fun and one of the funniest movies on the list. Also produced the best action sequences, had some of the best character moments, and showcased the best balancing act of so many characters. Biggest downfall was having a very good, but not great story line, which kept it from topping my list.
  4. Iron Man – Epic way to start the Universe with an unbelievable star for a headliner. Never got into the Iron Monger villain though.
  5. Guardians of the Galaxy – Best space epic since the original Star Wars movies. Also was probably the funniest movie of the MCU so far
  6. Marvel's Daredevil: Season 2 - The introduction of Jon Bernthal's Punisher in Season 2 was what truly made this season great and better than Season 2. Had a few pacing issues, but overall, the series only improved all the characters within it from Season 1, but I'm still so-so on Electra. Still needs a few more crossovers, but had a few.
  7. Marvel’s Daredevil: Season 1 – Loved the street-level more-adult-themed tone of this show. Also contains probably the second best villain in the MCU. Being on Netflix is a great way to un-cuff all the normal problems of making a TV show for network viewing.
  8. Ant-Man - Had super-low expectations, but walked away pleasantly surprised. Yet another weak villain, but contained some great comedy with some great actors. Paul Rudd won me over when I once was really skeptical of him.
  9. Captain America: The First Avenger – Epic first-half of the movie with Cap’s origin story, but believe it or not, I found Red Skull a little underdeveloped. Loved the WWII time period aspect of this one.
  10. Marvel's Jessica Jones - Series filled with great actors, great drama, good diversity to what we are used to, and one of the best villains in the MCU (Kilgrave). Series suffered most from having probably 3-4 too many episodes, poor pacing, and not enough ties to the overall MCU.
  11. Iron Man 2 – Many will mock me, but I actually really enjoyed this movie and actually enjoyed it more than Iron Man 3. Make fun of me all you want, but I didn’t think Whiplash was that bad. I think this movie gets unfairly criticized.
  12. Avengers: Age of Ultron – Fun movie, but suffered from too much CGI action, too many characters, and too many storylines.
  13. Thor: The Dark World – Criticize me if you will, but I actually liked this movie and thought it got an unfair bad wrap. I didn’t find Malekith that bad and I actually liked this movie more than the original Thor.
  14. Iron Man 3 – Don’t know what it is, but I just never really got into this one, and it probably had something to do with the big Mandarin villain twist towards the end. Also never really liked Killian either. Again, I surprisingly like Iron Man 2 better
  15. Marvel’s Agents of Shield: Season 2 – Liked the less cheese and more serious tone than the first season. Also, loved the Inhuman’s storyline. Used to hate Skye, but now don’t mind her.
  16. Marvel’s Agent Carter – Loved the period timepiece aspect of this. Great show.
  17. Thor – Don’t know what it is, but I just never got into this storyline or villains as much as the others. Again, I surprisingly liked Thor: Dark World more.
  18. The Incredible Hulk – Good movie, but not great. Never was into Norton for the role or the look they gave theHulk, so I was super glad when the switch was made and they remade the Hulk's appearance.
  19. Marvels Agents of Shield: Season 1 – Struggled hardcore in the first half-dozen episodes, but then finally picked up when Winter Soldier story line set in and the cheese started to fade. Overall, ended up really enjoying this.
  20. Marvel's Agents of Shield: Season 3 - Was VERY up and down throughout. There was times I really liked what they were doing, whereas other times where I really did not like what they were doing. Overall, the series is getting a little tired, too many forced fistfights, and still too high on the cheese factor. Still fun at times though.
  21. Marvel's Agent Carter: Season 2 - Great actors and characters combined with a poor, stand-alone story which lacked substance and true stakes to the MCU

On episode 20 of Agents of Shield right now. Man, does anyone else just absolutely hate the character of May in the show???? I haven't been able to stand her from the get go. She is a terrible actress, her character is super one-dimensional, and she is a lot of the reason for much of a cheese factor in the show. I mean, just when I thought she wouldn't whip out my all-time most hated line again of "if I need a gun, I'll take one" (so so stupid) again, she did it. Man, I hope that character dies by the end of the season. There is no doubt she is fighting for the #1 spot on my most hated list right now which also currently includes the characters of Laurel Lance (Arrow), Roy Harper (Arrow). The next bit lower tier then includes Foggy Nelson (Daredevil), Mia Dearden/Speedy (Arrow), and Eddie Thawne (Flash).

Definitely agree with your most hated list. Have you watched Legends of Tomorrow yet? I know that's DC so I don't want to muddy up this thread but there is some really brutal acting by some of those characters as well.

Nope, I have not seen Legends of Tomorrow yet beings how I pretty much don't watch anything TV wise until it gets released on Netflix. I can't stand waiting a full week between episodes and watching commercials, versus watching an episode each night after the wife and kid fall asleep. With that said, I'm not surprised by what you said. Of the characters I know (based on what I've watched so far), I really like Caity Lotz as Sara Lance. So far, she is a much better actress and a much more believable BA girl Superhero fighter than Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy), Mia Dearden (Willa Holland), or Electra (Elodie Young) could ever hope to be. Unlike those other 100 pound girls, she actually is a really good real-life athlete with some muscle to her. However, on the flip side, while I do really like Wentworth Miller as an actor, his version of Captain Cold definitely comes off as very forced and pretty cheesy in Flash: Season 1, so I wouldn't be surprised if that carries on to LOT.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm a big rankings guy, so just ignore me if you don't care. I understand. With that said, a while back, I posted a comic book TV show rankings on the DCEU thread which I thought I'd update now that I've seen a few more shows.

  1. Daredevil (Seasons 1)
  2. The Flash (Season 1)
  3. Daredevil (Season 2)
  4. Arrow (Season 2)
  5. Arrow (Season 1)
  6. Jessica Jones (Season 1)
  7. Agents of Shield (Season 2)
  8. Agent Carter (Season 1)
  9. Agents of Shield (Season 1)
  10. Agents of Shield (Season 3)
  11. Agent Carter (Season 2)
  12. Arrow (Season 3)
  13. Constantine (Season 1)

Keep in mind that since I don't watch any shows live, you'll see that I'm still missing quite a few seasons of shows that have finished up, but haven't hit streaming sites yet. On my list of shows I plan on watching are Flash (Season 2), Arrow (Season 4), Legends of Tomorrow (Season 1), Supergirl (Season 1), and Preacher (Season 1). Maybe some day I'll go through all the Gotham series, but right now, I just don't really have enough interest and still have enough other stuff to watch. I also don't like that it isn't connected to anything. If I were to want to compare Marvel TV vs DC TV, based on my rankings, I'd say they both are pretty even overall. With all this said, feel free to critique my rankings and also feel free to add some input on some of the shows I haven't seen yet.

Of the Marvel series on Netflix, which should I watch first? I haven't seen any of them.

Yeah, I'd second you starting with Daredevil: Season 1 first for sure beings how the Netflix series are part of the overall shared MCU universe, which means that they operate chronologically, and there is also some crossing over between the different TV/Netflix shows and the movies. With that said, while there is some crossing over between the Netflix series and the other stuff, overall, it is pretty minimal and is mostly just in references. In fact, most of the more major crossovers are just between the different Netflix series (Daredevil characters showing up on Jessica Jones or vise versa). To a large extent, the Netflix Marvel world mostly has its own story lines outside of the other shows and movies as it is meant to focus more on street level threats in Harlem and Hells Kitchen, whereas the movies and other TV shows are more bigger picture threats like aliens, power stones, and whatnot. I guess this would be a good thing if someone were to only want to watch the Netflix series and not really miss out on much.

The other reason to watch in order is due to the fact that the Marvel Netflix world has an overall plan that it is leading up to just like the movies do, where it is currently trying to establish all the different characters in their own series (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist), before they all team together for a big crossover team series called The Defenders, similar to what the movies did with the Avengers. With that said, many of us are also hoping that this Defenders team will eventually team up in some way, shape or form with the Avengers during the Infinity Wars movies, beings how that will take place after the Defenders. It is still yet to be determined whether that will happen or not.

Lastly, here is the overall order if you plan to watch more than one series:

1. Daredevil: Season 1
2. Jessica Jones: Season 1 (Luke Cage is also in this one)
3. Daredevil: Season 2 (Punisher and Elektra are also in this one)
4. Luke Cage: Season 1 (September 2016)
5. Iron Fist: Season 1 (TBA)
6. The Defenders (TBA)

They've also announced that they will be doing a solo Punisher series as well as a Jessica Jones: Season 2, but they just haven't announced when they will be or even when they will fall in the order of things. If you are curious who the best characters of all the series so far are, I'd say those would be Daredevil, Kingpin (Daredevil villain), Killgrave (Jessica Jones villain), and the Punisher.

Now, I did very much expect to see something from Luke Cage at SDCC beings how it is coming out this fall, and right about now is usually when they do show something for their fall lineups. However, I didn't expect to see anything from Iron Fist, much less the Defenders, so that is cool. Granted, I recognize The Defenders teaser literally had ZERO footage outside of Stick saying one short line at the end. Cool seeing something for those two shows nevertheless to get me excited.

One thing I do appreciate about the MCU is the diversity of genres they are trying to produce to keep things fresh. Yes, all things in the MCU are sci-fi superhero shows for the most part. However, everything is at least a little bit, if not a lot different from everything else from a genre perspective. So far, we've seen straight-up action flick movies (Iron Man movies), we've seen more time-period pieces (First Avenger, Agent Carter), we've seen a spy thriller (Winter Soldier), we've seen more of a lighthearted comedy (Ant-Man), we've seen a space epic (GOTG), we've seen psychological thrillers (Jessica Jones, DDS2) and it sounds like the upcoming Dr. Strange will even have some horror elements to it. With that said, all of them are still believable to be in the same universe, and all of these upcoming Netflix shows look to show us something new and different still. Can't wait.

I'm not a marvel guy, in fact I think MCU is overrated. That said I loved Guardians of the Galaxy. It's a science fiction flick that stands on its own. You should really watch Serenity though. They're in the same ballpark. Both excellent science fiction films. They're close enough in quality that I think only bias separates them.

Serenity severely disappointed me after watching Firefly. That's mostly just because of the limitations of the movie after really liking that show. I liked GotG but not that much, so my only bias against Serenity comes from it not holding up to the quality of the show IMO.

I loved Serenity. Thought it captured the feel really well. Hated when they killed off a particular couple of characters, but it happens.

??????? That trailer is for a Luke Cage individual series and Luke Cage IS Power Man. Also, there IS going to be an individual Iron Fist series after the Luke Cage one. That is what that Iron Fist Trailer was for.

I like them all to varying degrees of course.

The highlighted are too low and Winter Soldier, while great, is no way #1.
