Marial Shayok Commits to ISU

Regardless of who starts next year(I'll still say it' 90% Solomon), to say he will have a diminished role and now only come off the bench for 15 minutes is crazy talk.

I don' think some of you realize how important he is on defense and rebounding.

You are making these things up. Literally no one has said that Jacobson will lead the team to a Big 12 Title. No one has said that Solomon would only see 15 minutes next year. Your overreaction is unnecessary.

A few points:

1. No one is crowning next years team Big 12 champs. To say that roster isnt capable of competing for one however is misguided.

2. Solomon Young will see MAJOR minutes next year. To say otherwise is just crazy.

3. I'll put our top three next year up there with anyone else in the Big 12 (Shayok, Wigginton, Lard). None of those McD AA for KU will have a game as polished as a 22 year old Shayok. I think the real question is how good can our next 3-4 be (Babb, Young, THT, Jacobsen, etc...).

4. To have a legit shot to take the crown from KU I think we are a high major impact transfer away.
Do you want to bet or not? I'm not arguing but I'm willing to bet.

What exactly has Solomon done to warrant less playing time? We might have missed the tournament last year had he not been inserted into the lineup.

He isn't going to average a double double but he is more than capable of being a starter in this league.

Also, what limited skills offensively are you talking about? I've seen him drain 3s before and he hits 15 foot jumpers all the time. I'm just confused on what games you'e been watching.

The team last year was far different from this one and the next one. For one, Lard is a much more impactful presence around the rim and at this point, he's more skilled around the basket. For me, it comes down to shooting. Young will have to be a sufficient shooting threat who can shoot 35% from 3 to maintain his minutes. This isn't a knock on him but when you start looking at what he does really well, it's hard to find. He can separate himself from Jacobsen by being a real shooting threat. Outside of that, I don't think they are much different. However, then you start looking at guys like Lewis, Griffin and Horton. Can he shoot as well as Lewis and can he be a versatile on defense? Can he shore like Horton? Is Griffin going to rebound and defend similar to Young while being a little more versatile? Obviously we don't know those answers right now and I wouldn't even say he's in danger but there are guys coming who are going to force him to develop and I think his shooting is the obvious place for him to solidify himself.

Solomon is a few inches taller and 40+ pounds heavier than those wings that you mentioned. His competition for time will be Jacobson and Lard. Yes, Prohm will run some small-ball lineups out there, but he is competing for time at the 5, not time at the 4.

I think Babb's role will diminish next year. Simply the fact that he won't have to play 38+ minutes a game because we have other capable players will diminish his role.

I could imagine a rotation like this. Excel fixes everything! :)

Prohm stated Monday on the call in show that Lard will pretty much exclusively play the 5 and based on his current production I wouldn't expect him to be playing less than 30 minutes a game unless it is dictated by fouls or an injury which is why Young will most likely be loosing minutes with the addition of Jacobson.

Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it "guaranteed", I will. I got spare time.
That's ok. Can't let your famous prognostication be forgotten. I'd suggest you follow whatever your normal routine is for toileting. No need to share that with me.

Don't take this wrong, but I hope Lewis can step up and really screw your chart up.

I also expect Shayok to get run at the point.

Criticism is welcome -- this was entirely for discussion. :)

Happy to modify it!

And regarding Young v. Jacobson, I believe that Prohm told CW that Jacobson would be starting this year. Now, Young looked better last game so by next year who knows. But either way, it is nice to have three legit big men.
I don’t see Prohm talking mid-season this year about how his sophomore center isn’t likely to start next year, or even alluding to as much. Fan speculation is one thing, but young players rarely take kindly to their coaches speculating like that to the press.

He's a Hawkeye troll who just tries to stir the pot over here

Well then he's backing up Lard. If he can't stretch at the 4 it's going to be hard to find room for him. That's part of the problem with our offense this year. We can't operate with two guys in the post as well as we could with just one.

I also don't care how big he is. I care what he does with it and it's been essentially the same as last year.

Pretty sure this quote is preseason or from early in the year when Beverly was still starting and Lard wasnt a starter yet. I don't think Prohm was necessarily elevating Jacobson over Young in that statement.

I don’t think anyone is going to listen to a Hok fan about basketball.
