I think you have to take a step back and honestly assess the ISU program, and as of right now, I agree with making a bowl game every year is the bar. Now that isn't to say that could change one day, but it's going to be a slow process, and making yearly trips to bowl games will build upon the next step of getting to 9+ win seasons.

I like to compare ISU football to my racing program. I want ISU to win Big 12 championships and have 9+ win seasons just like I want to win season points championships and finish in the top 5 at every race. Unfortunately, while those are good aspirations at this point in time they aren't realistic aspirations. Being a bowl team every year is a realistic attainable goal, just like finishing in the top 15 for season points is a realistic attainable goal for my racing so as long as that is happening I am not going to ***** and complain.

It’s really something to watch some people’s hatred for Manning just completely override their ability to acknowledge accomplishments like shattering almost every previous ISU offensive record in one season.

Plus, if special teams literally just didn't screw us, we probably would have won another game or two. Offense and Defense are not the problem. We replicate those numbers each year we win a lot of games. The special teams really, really cost us this year.

It's not like Manning has total control over play calling and the offense. If Campbell wants them to be under center on fourth down they would be under center on fourth down. They obviously don't practice it much and it isn't really part of their philosophy. Personally I think they should be.

Lol that's tough for the fire Manning crowd

disclaimer...i'm not on the fire Manning bandwagon

1. 2019...7-6*
2. 1976...8-3
3. 1989...6-5
4. 2000...9-3
5. 2016...3-9*

*Manning at OC

While I didn't make the argument, those people who are spouting about issues with Manning might be discussing the records in those years as much as stats.

Personally, I don't really care about stats. Wins matter more. I don't blame manning solely for our record but I think it's disingenuous to use this as the primary argument to support him or any other person, for that matter. I would think wins would matter. Just another opinion.

The Fire Manning crowd is wrong.... But I do hope they practice some under center plays for next year, specifically a QB sneak.

Also, instead of firing Manning can we hire a competent special teams coach instead?

***DISCLAIMER, I'M BORED AND NOT DISCREDITING ANYTHING***

Decided to do some numbers since, remember, I have nothing else better to do right now. The UL-M game was such an incredible outlier when you look at it. I replaced the 714 total yards in that game with the season average, and it came out to 423.5 ypg, which would still be top 5 all-time.

Also ran numbers to if the offense actually decided to show up the last two games of the season. Replaced those with the season average and got 473.5 ypg, which would've shattered the record.

Interesting note: this season, we were out-gained in 5 games, where 4 of those were losses, the other we were out-gained by Kansas by 4 yards. The only loss we had where we had more yards was against Iowa.

Texas Tech put up insane yards per game as well under Kliff. While this stat is great, it doesn't tell the whole picture.

ISU was tied at 86th in turnover margin at -3. (Manning has not control over this)
ISU was 87th in 3rd down conversion percentage.
ISU was 97th in 4th down conversion percentage.

ISU was 8th in red zone offense scoring 94.3% of the time.

Yeah, this is where I am at as well. Just have to keep knocking on the door. Reality is Campbell has this program a couple plays from winning the Big 12 the last couple years. That is something I thought not remotely possible 10 years ago.

I really think Manning was trying to compensate for some O line deficiencies at times. Plus he is young, and I think this staff has the right attitude to keep getting better. They are all so young still really. Really can't expect everything to be perfectly refined.

I don't think firing Manning would cure the problem. Hopefully the staff can see where the team was and focus on those things this offseason. Firing a guy that was the leader behind the offense that created the most yards per game in history isnt going to help. Fixing the problem areas will.

Assuming no one transfers out or gets booted off the team, next year our offense returns guys who this year had:

366/412 (88.8%) rushing attempts
1655/1729 (95.7%) rushing yards
21/22 (95.5%) rushing touchdowns
174/315 (55.2%) receptions
2434/4047 (60.1%) receiving yards
19/27 (70.4%) receiving touchdowns

Oh and Brock Purdy.

We clearly take a bit of a hit at WR, but I think some guys will step up next year, just as guys did this year with replacing Butler. I think we are looking solid as far as the run game goes. Breece has solidified himself as the starter, Jirehl Brock could be an absolute stud for us next year as well.

Hoping Manning learns from and fixes the mistakes from this year. His play calling was VERY questionable at times this year, to the point where I think we lost some games because of it, but I don't think it was bad enough where he should lose his job, or get demoted (I don't think Matt would fire his buddy). The coaching staff is clearly not stupid, and they will make adjustments.

Ridiculous. He only led the most prolific Iowa State offense in history this year. Some of you people need to step back from the ledge.

Do you know what "the most prolific offense in history" is when it only results in a 7-6 record and can't get things done when it matters most? Empty stats. And don't lay the blame for this season on the defense. Yes, there were holes in the secondary and at times took bad angles, but it was a defense that still ranked top 2 in the Big 12 in most categories.

And by the way, if this team hadn't laid 72 on ULM with over 700 yards in total offense, are we even calling this the "most prolific Iowa State offense in history"?
