Does it help the psyche of a team to put them in position to fail rather than put them in a position to succeed on a play?

Is throwing into double coverage on the long side of the field to one receiver after ISU has been running the ball (UNI) a high successful situation?

How about a deep handoff?

Strange, almost like it was getting cherry picked.
I didn't cherry pick anything. I didn't include the 13 OT points against UNI because most teams score more in OT than during regulation (which you'd expect, getting the ball at the 25). So it artificially inflates what you'd expect to happen in a "normal" game. But I included the ULM game in calculating the median, and mentioned in my post that we scored 40+ on three other occasions.

For the record, I don't want Manning fired. I think he has things he has to work on, of course. This team was snake bit by turnovers on both sides, and bad penalties. And, our special teams.

Yeah there was more to it than just a game plan but it wasn't exactly automatic offense which might be more of a personnel thing than we as fans were hoping. Ohio State's OC looked pretty great the other night when Dobbins had the ball and LSU's OC looked like a master mind. Wonder why.

Also think of what a threat like Butler does for the effectiveness of this offense.

That's fine, I just wanted to make sure I knew where you stood on it.

I really don't care about stats or records that much. I just watch our offense compared to watching others, and we look totally inept most of the time IMO. Totally vanilla. No variety of plays, no misdirection to keep any defense honest, no screens, no dump off option for Purdy to throw to when he's in trouble.... and the list can go on and on and on IMO.

Our offense is a plain vanilla running game, and the passing game consists of Purdy backpedaling while all our routes seem to be 15-20 yds downfield.... no quick slants or fly patterns.... only mid range passes.

Just for clarity - Notre Dame had the #18 defense in the nation. The only team ISU played this season with a higher-ranked defense was......Iowa.

Iowa State was ranked #29 in total offense for the season. Not top ten, but not embarrassing by any stretch of the imagination.

Just because we played a team that statistically was better than we were and laid an egg doesn't call for every head to roll. I think Notre Dame got tired of the pregame bull$hit and came in ready to make a statement.

And sometimes the other guy makes a play.
You're either the guy that makes the play or you're not. It's that simple. I'm not putting blame on Pettway I'm just saying him coming down with that catch was big for us. It happens. Like I said, against OU, LSU's receivers were making every single tough catch that went their way. OU was right there on a lot of them but LSU's guys went and made the play.

There's quite a big difference between LSU's receivers and ours. Guys that make plays like that get drafted in the first round and play for a long time on Sundays. And even for them it's a low probability play to make. And no, it's not as black and white as either you make the play or not. Why not apply your logic to throw? After all Joe Burrow made that throw up and down the field against OU. We've seen tough throws and catches made by our guys this year, it just didn't happen in that situation. The fact is the defender was in a better position to make a play on the ball due to the placement of throw.

Watching OU's defense makes me think I could be a successful D1 QB.

I hope our coaching staff is smarter than this. IDK if you remember, but KU was ahead of us on the 4th quarter and even outgained us in total yards.

I'm very concerned when a school with literally nowhere to go but up hires a coach that has won 2 national championships.

Congrats to KU on winning the 3 quarter game against us, they should be playing LSU for the National Championship.

I for one was never worried about that game.

A 66 year old coach, who was out of coaching for 3 years and is just looking for some easy money,

I tend to agree. Miles was washed when he left the game the first time, I'm not convinced he's suddenly less-washed now. They showed some improvement, but...that's it.

Not to discredit our players because I love these guys, but if you think our talent level is on the same as the Ohio State and Oklahoma teams.....

I'm not sure they assume the talent level is the same. Just the wondering 'why doesn't ISU run more RB screens or run RPOs with Purdy more or go deep?' type of stuff without realizing the kinds of pieces it takes to do that.

Regarding offensive records: can we please stop acting like the stats weren't padded because of the ULM game? Also, WVU and TCU had down seasons, and KU as always was a doormat.

However, I would not be surprised to see a certain coach raise the bar at KU. That concerns me.

So records only count when you beat good teams?
